Thanksgiving Feast: Bread Cornucopia

Make a Bread Cornucopia for Thanksgiving!

Ingredients:

Pillsbury breadsticks (or pizza crust)

aluminum foil

non-stick spray

egg – to make an egg wash

1 tablespoon water

fresh fruits and vegetables

To create your own bread cornucopia, follow these simple step by step directions:

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.

Create a cornucopia shape with your foil and spray it with non-stick spray.

Open cans of dough. If you are not using breadsticks, use a pizza cutter to cut the dough into strips.

Starting at the end of the cornucopia, wrap the dough strips around the foil, slightly overlapping the dough.

When complete, twist the final dough strip and place around the opening of the cornucopia.

In a small bowl, beat the egg with a tablespoon of water to create an egg wash.

Brush the egg wash onto the bread cornucopia and bake for 10-13 minutes.

Keep an eye on it as it may brown quickly. After mine was browned, I tented it with foil and let it bake an additional few minutes to ensure the dough was cooked.

Then, just place it on a platter and fill it with fresh fruits and veggies.

So fun and festive for Thanksgiving!

... Read moreAfter making my first bread cornucopia, I realized just how versatile and fun it can be! Not only is it a stunning centerpiece, but it's also practical and delicious. I wanted to share a few more tips and ideas I've picked up to make yours even more spectacular and stress-free, especially with Thanksgiving approaching. Filling Inspiration Beyond the Basics: Beyond the classic fresh fruits and veggies—like the beautiful broccoli, vibrant carrots, crisp celery, and juicy red grapes I often use—consider adding some unexpected delights. Think about a colorful array of cherry tomatoes, refreshing cucumber slices, or even sweet yellow bell pepper strips for extra crunch. For a savory twist, I sometimes fill mine with a mix of artisan cheeses and crackers, or even small bowls of dips like hummus or spinach dip. You could also include some cured meats for a charcuterie-style cornucopia. If you're feeling adventurous, mini muffins or sweet pastries could turn it into a dessert display! The key is to create a visually appealing and colorful assortment that complements your other dishes. Dough Variations & Tips for Perfection: While Pillsbury breadsticks or pizza crust make this recipe incredibly easy, don't be afraid to experiment. I've seen people use homemade brioche dough for a richer flavor, or even puff pastry for a flakier texture – just adjust baking time accordingly. When wrapping the dough, try to keep the overlap consistent for a more uniform, golden-brown finish. And remember that egg wash isn't just for shine; it helps the bread achieve that beautiful golden hue and ensures the entire surface cooks evenly. If you notice it browning too quickly, gently tent it with aluminum foil as the original recipe suggests to allow the inside to cook through without burning the outside. Making Ahead & Storage Secrets: One of my favorite things about this bread cornucopia is that you can bake it a day in advance! Once it's completely cooled, I store mine loosely covered at room temperature. Just before serving, I'll refresh it in a warm oven for about 5-7 minutes to bring back that delicious fresh-baked aroma and a slight crispness. This is a game-changer for Thanksgiving prep, letting you focus on other dishes on the big day without scrambling to get this centerpiece done last minute. Presentation & Display for Maximum Impact: To make your bread cornucopia truly pop, think about the platter and surrounding decor. I love setting mine on a large, rustic wooden board or a festive ceramic platter, surrounded by small gourds, autumn leaves, or even fairy lights for an evening dinner. Arranging the fillings artfully makes a huge difference; try creating layers of color with the vegetables and fruits, ensuring everything is easy to grab. You can even use some of the smaller elements like radishes or snap peas to fill in gaps and add texture. It really turns a simple bread item into a show-stopping edible centerpiece that everyone talks about! Enjoy creating this wonderful addition to your holiday feast!
