Before You Plan Your Carpentry, See This

Reno Journey #1 🏠 | Blum vs Häfele vs KKPL

One thing I didn’t expect when starting our reno journey was that we would actually go around trying hinges, drawer tracks, dish racks and cabinet mechanisms 😂 But here we are.

Sharing our experience visiting Blum, Häfele & KKPL in case anyone is also planning their carpentry!

BLUM ⭐️

Probably our favourite experience out of the three.

We actually walked in without an appointment and the salesperson who attended to us was super attentive. She took the time to explain the different mechanisms, how they work and why you might choose one over another.

Their experience centre is quite big and very well thought out. They may have fewer types of products compared to Häfele, but the way everything is displayed makes it really easy to understand and actually experience the difference.

We spent quite some time opening and closing drawers, testing hinges and playing around with the different mechanisms 😂

Definitely recommend visiting before finalising your carpentry. Even if you don't end up using Blum for everything, it's quite useful to understand what options are available.

We didn't make an appointment — just walked in!

HÄFELE

This one was… okay for us 😅

They definitely have a much wider range of products. You can find hinges, drawer systems, dish racks, pull-outs and a lot of other kitchen/wardrobe accessories here.

Price-wise, we realised some of the items aren't actually that far off from Blum.

Their hinges and mechanisms are definitely better than your basic carpentry hardware, but personally, the experience centre itself didn't impress us as much as Blum.

We also went without an appointment and the sales reps were quite busy, so we mostly walked around and tried everything ourselves.

Thankfully, most of the displays are quite self-explanatory, so you can still get a pretty good idea of how everything works.

KKPL

For this one — please make an appointment before going! 😂

They also have a pretty wide range of cabinet and wardrobe accessories, but I feel their focus is slightly different.

If you're someone who likes modern / techy home stuff, this place might be interesting for you.

They have things like wardrobe dehumidifiers, cabinet lighting, dish racks, storage compartments and other accessories/mechanisms.

I don't think they focus much on hinges like Blum/Häfele, but there are quite a lot of interesting solutions for wardrobes and cabinetry.

We especially liked seeing the dehumidifier solutions because… Singapore humidity 🥲

Our takeaway so far:

Blum → Best overall experience + mechanisms

Häfele → Biggest variety / lots of options

KKPL → Modern & techy cabinet/wardrobe solutions

We actually ended up mixing and matching instead of sticking to one brand because each place had certain things we preferred.

More reno hunting to come… 🏠🔨

Just sharing our own experience as homeowners — not sponsored! 😂 Additionally, not being biaise, forgot to take photos for Häfele and KKPL, Blum was our last stop.

... Read moreWhen embarking on a carpentry project, especially in renovation journeys like ours, visiting experience centers can be a game-changer. Our visits to Blum, Häfele, and KKPL highlighted not just their product range, but also the importance of experiencing these mechanisms firsthand. At Blum’s Singapore experience centre, we were impressed by how smooth and satisfying it felt to test out the drawer tracks, hinges, and cabinet mechanisms — truly smooth like butter. This hands-on opportunity helped us understand smart storage solutions that make daily use seamless, such as pull-out compartments that tuck away neatly, which often go unnoticed in planning phases. From my personal experience, testing hardware at different centers is invaluable to gauging build quality and operation ease. Blum’s smaller but highly curated selection focuses on quality and intuitive design, making it ideal for those prioritizing lasting smoothness and thoughtful engineering. Meanwhile, Häfele impressed with their expansive product variety, providing numerous choices for hinges, drawer systems, and kitchen accessories — perfect if you seek customizable options, even though the showroom experience was more self-guided due to busy staff. On the other hand, KKPL caters to tech-savvy homeowners looking for modern upgrades. Their range includes wardrobe dehumidifiers—essential in humid climates like Singapore to prevent moisture damage—cabinet lighting, and innovative storage compartments. I learned that integrating such modern tech accessories early in renovation planning can greatly improve home functionality and comfort. What stood out most to me was the benefit of mixing and matching brands. No single supplier had everything we needed or preferred, so selecting the best features from each allowed us to tailor our cabinetry to our lifestyle and needs. I recommend anyone planning carpentry to not only research product offerings but to visit these experience centers whenever possible. It offers a tactile understanding of what you’ll be living with daily, helping avoid buyer’s remorse. Additionally, remember to book appointments where necessary—as with KKPL—to ensure dedicated attention and a comprehensive overview of solutions. Ultimately, the small investment in time visiting these centers can save you from costly adjustments down the road and inspire better renovation decisions.
