So… I’ve befriended a buzzard 😅 And now he’s a character in my books. Now and again he waves at me like I wave at him. Watch you will see it. It’s time to give him a name. He comes to see me every day no matter where I am in the property. What shall I name him. I always just think of the buzzards in Robin Hood when I see them.
Forming a bond with a wild buzzard has been a truly unique and rewarding experience. Every day, no matter where I am on my property, this majestic bird flies by to say hello, almost as if we share a secret understanding. It's fascinating to observe how he reacts to other animals around, like my dog Ellie, whose barking sometimes scares him off temporarily but never deters his return. I've noticed that buzzards, often misunderstood as mere scavengers, actually display a range of behaviors including curiosity and tolerance towards human presence, especially when approached calmly and respectfully. Naming him feels like the next step in solidifying our friendship. The buzzards in the tales of Robin Hood inspired me—those birds have a mysterious and noble aura, so picking a name that reflects that character seems fitting. Observing his subtle daily wave-like gestures towards me has become a small joy, a connection bridging the gap between wild nature and my everyday life. This experience also inspired me to include him as a character in my writing, capturing his essence for readers to appreciate. For anyone interested in connecting with local wildlife, patience and respect are key. Creating a routine and gentle interaction space allows such friendships to blossom naturally.
