Oh my goodness, this movie is fantastic! It takes the classic slasher trope and twists it with a Groundhog Day-esque time loop. The main character, Tree Gelbman, finds herself reliving her murder day over and over again until she can figure out who her killer is. It’s got a great balance of suspense, humor, and genuine scares. The concept of a distressed woman trying to escape a masked killer, constantly reliving her murder day, is just brilliant. It's a clever and engaging watch that makes you root for the protagonist while also enjoying the ride. You can find this gem available on VOD. Next, if you’re brave enough, is Clown (2014). This film is not for the faint of heart, especially if you have any aversion to grotesque clown faces! It tells the story of a loving father who, after finding a cursed clown suit for his son's party, begins a terrifying transformation into the demonic entity it represents. Produced by Eli Roth, this movie really leans into body horror and psychological terror. The idea of a man with clown makeup becoming something truly monstrous, driven by an ancient hunger, is genuinely disturbing. It’s a unique take on the clown horror subgenre and definitely left me with chills. This one is available to stream on Netflix. Beyond these two, there are plenty of other scary films to explore for your birthday horror marathon. For a more psychological and supernatural thriller, I’d recommend checking out The Haunting of Molly Hartley on Tubi. It delves into a girl's struggles with PTSD and bullying, all while facing a sinister supernatural force. If you're looking for something with a bit more action and quirky horror, Willy's Wonderland, also on Tubi, delivers Nicolas Cage fighting animatronic characters – pure chaotic fun and a great fight for survival! For those who prefer a darker, more occult-driven serial killer story, Longlegs (on Hulu) follows an FBI agent solving cryptic clues. And if you’re into experimental or drug-induced horror, MadS, a Shudder original, promises a distorted and intense experience. There's truly a horror movie for every kind of fear. So grab your popcorn, maybe some white balloons for that eerie outdoor scene vibe, and get ready for a frightful celebration!
