Day 6: A Book You DNF’d Recently
When it comes to reading, we all have those books that, for one reason or another, we decide to DNF—Did Not Finish. Recently, I attempted to dive into "The Nightingale" by Kristin Hannah, a #1 New York Times bestseller praised as "an unforgettable portrait of love and war". Despite the hype and glowing reviews, I found myself unable to continue. The story, set during World War II, offers a profound look at the resilience and sacrifices made during turbulent times. However, for me, the pacing and emotional tone were challenging to engage with. Sometimes, a book's subject matter, no matter how important or beautifully written, may not resonate personally at the moment. DNF-ing a book is a valid choice and part of the reading journey. It doesn't reflect poorly on the book or the author but rather on what suits a reader's current mood, interests, or circumstances. Sharing this experience has helped me appreciate other aspects of "The Nightingale", even if I didn’t complete it. For readers considering this book, give it a try, but remember it’s okay to set a book aside if it doesn’t connect with you.
