At the beginning of the story, it was like paving the atmosphere for us to be suspicious of all the people around us, sometimes secretly stretching to the feeling of "when to answer," but at the end there was still a rhythm to put the book down as well.
It's not a book that makes you cry wow all the time, but it's also charming in a way that makes you want to read it to the end because you want to know what the truth is.
It's not the best book of this writer, but it's still a fun triller to read for a second. If you like the quiet house feed, the strange neighbors, and the gradual paranoia that depresses the reader, this book is OK. 📍

การอ่าน The Housemaid Is Watching ทำให้ผมรู้สึกได้ถึงความตั้งใจของผู้แต่งในการสร้างบรรยากาศความระแวงและความรู้สึกไม่สบายใจที่ค่อยๆ แผ่กระจายไปทั่วเรื่องราว โดยเฉพาะการใช้ภาพลักษณ์ของบ้านและเพื่อนบ้านที่ดูเหมือนจะซ่อนบางอย่างไว้ ที่สำคัญคือความรู้สึกเหมือนมีสายตาเฝ้าดูตลอดเวลา ซึ่งทำให้เรื่องราวมีความน่ากลัวแบบที่ไม่ต้องพึ่งพาฉากหวาดเสียวหรือความรุนแรงมากนัก ผมชอบการที่เรื่องนี้เน้นไปที่การปูบรรยากาศและตัวละครมากกว่าการเปิดเผยเหตุการณ์ใหญ่ในทันที เชิงลึกของตัวละครอย่างมิลลี่ที่พยายามปรับตัวในบ้านใหม่ ทั้งความรู้สึกไม่มั่นคงและความสงสัยในความลับของเพื่อนบ้าน เป็นจุดที่ทำให้ผู้อ่านสามารถเชื่อมโยงและอินกับเรื่องได้ดี จากประสบการณ์ของผมเอง การอ่านหนังสือแนวทริลเลอร์ที่มีเนื้อเรื่องช้าแต่มีความตึงเครียดสะสมแบบนี้ต้องใช้ความอดทนพอสมควร เพราะช่วงแรกของเรื่องอาจจะรู้สึกว่าเดินช้า แต่ถ้าผ่านช่วงนี้ไปแล้ว จะเกิดความสนใจติดตามไปจนถึงจุดไคลแมกซ์และตอนจบที่น่าประทับใจ นอกจากนี้ ความรู้สึกที่ว่าบ้านในฝันอาจเป็นกับดักหรือเต็มไปด้วยเงื่อนงำ เป็นความคิดที่แอบชวนขนลุกและทำให้หนังสือเล่มนี้แตกต่างจากทริลเลอร์ทั่วไป สำหรับคนที่ชอบอ่านหนังสือที่บรรยากาศชวนลุ้นและมีการสร้างความสงสัยต่อเนื่อง The Housemaid Is Watching ถือเป็นทางเลือกที่ดีสำหรับการอ่านเพลินๆ และเก็บเอาความรู้สึกเฝ้ามองและระแวงติดตัวไปด้วยหลังจากปิดเล่ม จึงเหมาะกับผู้ที่ชื่นชอบความลึกลับเล็กๆ ผสมกับความรู้สึกเหมือนถูกจับตามองแบบไม่รู้ตัว
