WOW. This book series was an easy five-star read for me. It's my first venture into the fantasy genre, and it certainly won't be my last. This series, a dark romance Peter Pan retelling, is undeniably smutty but offers a delightful read with a compelling plot.
Peter Pan has lost his shadow, a mystery lingering for over 20 years. The Never King is desperate to reclaim it, but the challenge lies in not knowing where it is. All he's certain of is the involvement of the original Darling girl. Consequently, every time a new girl in the Darling family turns 18, Peter Pan swoops in and abducts them in the dead of night. His plan is to take these girls to the fae princess, hoping to extract information from their minds. However, unbeknownst to him, the fae princess is no ally. Instead of seeking the information Pan needs, she fries the Darling's brains, ensuring no information can ever be recovered. Yet, this last Darling girl, Winne Darling, proves to be different from the start.
Winne captures the attention of those who captured her early on, and she navigates her survival strategy. However, as relationships form and alliances shatter, Winne becomes the Darling not only to assist Pan in finding his shadow but also to help Vane and the fae princess become who they were meant to be all along.
This series was incredibly addictive; I could barely put it down. I highly recommend it!
