Some months I focus on finishing a particular genre, while other times I pick books based on mood or recommendations from friends and online communities like #booktok and the Lemon8 book club. Incorporating different reading formats such as Kindle, physical copies, and audiobooks can also make a big difference. For instance, audiobooks allow me to 'read' while commuting or doing chores, which significantly boosts my completed book count. On the other hand, physical books give me that tactile pleasure of turning pages and highlighting favorite quotes. A typical August for me might start with a suspenseful thriller recommended by a friend—these always add excitement and keep me hooked. I also enjoy setting a goal, like reading five books or exploring new authors like Mary Kubica, known for gripping narratives such as "Local Woman Missing." Tracking my progress weekly also keeps me motivated and helps me adjust my TBR list as needed.
