Nixon Copper Cleaner and Polish

💌 Brand: Nixon Polish

💵 Price: $8-10 depending on where you purchase it from.

👍Pros : it cleans and polished copper making it look new. Giving the surface a genuine shine.

🤔Cons: messy on the hands so gloves are a must have.

⭐️Overall rating: 10/10: I’ve tried other polishes but none work as good as Nixon on copper.

... Read moreCopper fixtures, especially beautiful hammered copper sinks and their matching faucets, add such a unique warmth and character to any kitchen or bathroom countertop. However, anyone who owns one knows the challenge: keeping that radiant, gleaming shine from succumbing to tarnish. It’s a common struggle, and I’ve certainly had my fair share of experimenting with different methods to maintain that 'just like new' look! So, why does copper tarnish in the first place? It's a natural process called oxidation. When copper is exposed to air and moisture, it reacts, forming a patina that can range from a dull brown to a greenish hue. While some people appreciate the antique look of a patina, most of us want our shiny copper sink to truly sparkle. For daily maintenance, I’ve found that simply rinsing your copper sink after each use and drying it thoroughly with a soft cloth can go a long way. This prevents water spots and minimizes the buildup of mineral deposits that can accelerate tarnishing. Using a mild soap and warm water for light cleaning is usually sufficient for everyday upkeep. But what happens when daily care isn't enough, and you notice stubborn tarnish starting to set in? That’s when you need to bring in the big guns. Many people turn to DIY solutions, and while some can offer temporary relief, they often fall short on delivering a lasting, genuine shine. For instance, a paste of lemon juice and salt can clean light tarnish, but it requires a lot of elbow grease and can be quite abrasive. Similarly, a mixture of vinegar and baking soda can work, but again, it’s often more effective on lighter discoloration and might not give that deep, polished luster you crave for your beautiful copper sink. For truly hammered copper surfaces, these DIY methods can sometimes struggle to reach into all the nooks and crannies. This is where a dedicated copper cleaner and polisher, like the Nixon Polish I swear by, truly shines. It’s formulated specifically to cut through tarnish and restore copper to its original brilliance, making even the oldest sink look new again. When using any metal polish, especially one as effective as this, preparation is key. Always work in a well-ventilated area, and as the original review mentioned, gloves are an absolute must! This product can be a bit messy on your hands, so protecting them will save you a lot of cleanup later. Apply a small amount to a soft cloth, gently rub it onto the tarnished areas of your copper sink and faucet, and watch the magic happen. You'll see the tarnish lift away, revealing the gleaming surface underneath. After polishing, make sure to rinse the treated area thoroughly with warm water to remove all residue, then dry it completely to prevent new water spots. To ensure that lasting shine after you've put in the effort, consider applying a thin layer of car wax or a specialized copper sealant. This creates a protective barrier that slows down the oxidation process, keeping your copper sink and faucet gleaming for longer. Regular, but not necessarily daily, polishing with a product designed for copper will ensure your fixtures remain a stunning focal point in your home, truly reflecting the light and enhancing your space.
