Something strange was happening in the woods
Vacation time this year meant taking time off the city and enjoying more of nature. My wife and I decided to go hiking in the woods. As the sun kissed the horizon, casting a warm golden glow over the bustling city, we yearned for something different-for a refreshing break. The cacophony of car horns and the relentless rhythm of urban life was beginning to take a back sit. It was time for a change of scenery, a chance to reconnect with nature and find solace in the ordinary things of nature’s offerings.
With a backpack securely fastened and hiking boots laced up, we set off into the heart of the forest. The path we followed was a winding tapestry of dirt and fallen leaves, leading us deeper into the woodland's embrace. As we hiked, the woods unveiled a secret. We stumbled upon a Groundhog! Now these are very shy creatures and would immediately vanish into its secret hideout upon sensing humans. However there we were, face to face with a Groundhog, but this one was different. It didn't even give us the time of day. Its eyes were locked straight ahead, like it was deep in thought or something. And you wouldn’t even imagine this, it wasn't scared of us at all! We got closer and snapped some pics, and it just acted like we weren't even there. Then, it casually strolled right by us, making its way down the path we had just taken to find it. We could have reached out and touched it, or even picked it up, but we didn't want to mess with it.
I think it was old and dying. Flies wear hovering around it as if they could sense that dead meat was on the horizon. As death lurked, the poor creature was unconcerned about the mundane things of life. It was living its last moments and perhaps confused about why its body was no longer what it used to be. Here in the midst of beauty, the old enemy called death was making its reality known. Other strange things happened besides with the Groundhog. Let me know if you want to learn more. But this thing called old age and death were the result of a rebellion against a holy God. The comfort for my soul is that everlasting life is in Jesus, and the day is coming when even all of nature would be liberated from the curse of aging and death. Do you now concern yourself too much with this life? Remember that when death comes knocking, the only thing that would matter is where you go after you die. What have you done with the gift of Jesus?
