Couldn’t go Uni, so what’s next..? 😵‍💫

I’ve graduated from Poly in May of this year and have been actively applying for University regardless of my low gpa point of 3.13 because I believed in some sort of luck that could get me into University with this low ass point. Before knowing my result, I have been actively grinding for jobs as you can tell from the WhatsApp conversations, mostly events because that’s what I prefer, non-commitments jobs.

In June 2025, I thought that I could finally settle down in a full-time job. Without realizing that I applied to a MLM (multi-level marketing) company, about one or two weeks before the official onboarding, I decided that it was not for me after consulting with few of my friends as well as there was no official documents for me to sign in person after just a simple call of I am accepted which I suspect it will only be given to me on my first day because most MLM companies would disguise themselves as really top-notch companies working with popular brands/services to capture you into the company since you are a newly and freshly graduated getting just started with the corporate world, they would use words like ‘travel opportunities’ or even ‘one-to-one coaching’. Honestly, for most jobs, after saving for quite abit you could also travel and usually for the onboarding process someone should be assigned to you to guide you…

In July 2025, it was a really bleak month for me because I could not secure any adhoc jobs because the agents are busy screening who to accept hence the lack of quick responses, it was a month that got me overthinking and unexpectedly learned a new hobby, crocheting and really got me to rest up which was not a bad thing afterall.

Slowly, most universities got back with the application results, which they rejected me. I couldn’t let it go like that hence I decided to appeal as well, to my surprise, they also rejected. I was despaired, dejected and however feelings you could think of.

I continued grinding event jobs for some side income because without any income coming in, how am I going to survive right..? All of a sudden, a job opportunity came but I was hesitating because I wasn’t sure if this was something I wanted to do as it was a job that had nothing to do with design… While hesitating for awhile, the agent called me again probably due to another job that I applied for, that was when I said ‘ok, i’ll take up this opportunity!’ Hence, an online interview was scheduled for me in the midst of working an atrium job, had to sneak away to go toilet for the interview preparation and for the interview itself. To my surprise, I’ve got in and will officially begin next week! Cheers to a new journey and beginning for me!

To those who are also struggling, you are not alone! Slowly find your pace, one step at a time! Take up job opportunities could boost your resume and gain working experiences first and decide again if you would like to try again for a degree next year, you got this! 💪

... Read moreIf you find yourself unable to get into university right after polytechnic, you're definitely not alone. Many of us face the same setbacks but there are ways to keep moving forward. Firstly, focusing on small practical steps like taking up temporary or ad-hoc jobs can help you build experience and confidence. Even if the work isn't exactly in your dream field, it adds value to your resume and introduces you to workplace dynamics. It's also important to be cautious about job offers that seem too good to be true, especially those from multi-level marketing (MLM) companies. These often lure you in with promises of travel or coaching, but lack transparency and official documentation. Always research thoroughly and consult friends or mentors to avoid getting stuck. When rejections come, giving yourself space to try new hobbies or activities can relieve stress and recharge your motivation. Joanne’s discover of crocheting helped her maintain balance during a bleak month. If you’re anxious about your academic foundation or exam preparation, consider creating a manageable study plan focused on fundamentals and breaking study time into focused intervals. Seek online resources or tutoring support if needed. Remember, it’s okay to take time to figure out your path. Appeal decisions may not always change, but your future opportunities are not limited to one route. Keep grinding, stay open to different kinds of roles, and think about trying again for university when you feel ready. Your journey is unique, and growth often comes from adapting to unexpected challenges. Keep connecting with supportive communities and share your experiences—sometimes, that encouragement is exactly what you need to keep going.
