One of the most distinct reminders from my body is the tightness in my shoulders; it feels like carrying a heavy load that isn’t mine to bear. Initially, I dismissed these feelings as just part of being busy or responsible, but overtime, it became clear that my body was screaming for a break. What helped me most was reframing irritability and jaw clenching not as flaws but as messages. Realizing that these were my nervous system’s attempt to protect me motivated me to slow down and reassess my commitments. For example, when I notice my jaw tightening as I think about my overloaded to-do list, I take it as a sign to pause and prioritize self-care or delegate tasks. Importantly, I've learned that ignoring the numbing and disconnection I sometimes feel when overfunctioning for others only leads to more emotional exhaustion. Instead, acknowledging these feelings as protective mechanisms made me more compassionate towards myself and better at setting clear boundaries. This practice is certainly not easy; it requires consistent effort and the willingness to say no even when it feels uncomfortable. However, honoring these bodily warnings has allowed me to prevent burnouts and maintain a healthier balance. If you catch yourself pushing through these signs, know that your body is communicating vital information that deserves to be respected for your long-term well-being.
