My first Royal Caribbean Solo Cruise
I absolutely love cruising and I often cruise solo. This is my 4th solo cruise and my first solo cruise on Royal Caribbean. This is Ovation of The Seas sailing to Alaska.

Embarking on a solo cruise, especially on a ship as grand as Royal Caribbean's Ovation of the Seas, is an adventure of a lifetime! While the original post barely scratched the surface, I'm here to share my personal take on making the absolute most of the incredible activities available onboard, perfect for anyone exploring Alaska or any destination as a solo traveler. First off, don't let the idea of dining alone deter you. Ovation of the Seas offers a fantastic array of culinary experiences. I loved trying different specialty restaurants, which often have smaller, more intimate settings perfect for singles. But even in the Main Dining Room, I found myself chatting with fellow passengers and making new friends. For a quick, casual meal, the Windjammer Marketplace has endless options, and you can easily find a quiet corner or join a larger table. I particularly enjoyed grabbing a quick bite at the SeaPlex Dog House – sometimes, a simple hot dog hits the spot while you're people-watching! When it comes to entertainment, Royal Caribbean truly shines. I was blown away by the Broadway-style shows in the Royal Theater; they're world-class and a fantastic way to spend an evening. For something more casual, the Two70 lounge transforms throughout the day, offering unique digital shows and stunning panoramic views. I also loved simply finding a cozy spot in one of the many bars to listen to live music – it's a great way to unwind and soak in the atmosphere without needing a companion. The casino, of course, is always buzzing if you're feeling lucky, and I even joined a fun trivia night where I teamed up with other solo cruisers! For the thrill-seekers, Ovation of the Seas has some truly iconic activities. I mustered up the courage to try RipCord by iFLY, the skydiving simulator, and it was an absolute blast! It's an individual experience, so it's perfect for solo travelers, and the instructors are incredibly encouraging. The North Star observation capsule offered breathtaking 360-degree views of the Alaskan fjords – a truly serene and unforgettable experience. And if you're feeling sporty, the FlowRider surf simulator and the rock-climbing wall are always popular. The SeaPlex, with its bumper cars and roller skating, is another fantastic spot for some active fun, and I often saw solo travelers easily joining in the games. Speaking of personal space and relaxation, one of the best decisions I made for my solo cruise was opting for a balcony cabin. I remember doing my own 'Ovation Of The Seas Royal Caribbean Balcony Tour' every morning, coffee in hand, watching the stunning Alaskan scenery pass by. It was my private sanctuary, perfect for enjoying quiet moments away from the bustling ship life, without feeling isolated. For a solo traveler, having that personal outdoor space really elevates the experience, offering a peaceful retreat to read, reflect, or simply soak in the ocean air. My advice for any solo cruiser on Royal Caribbean is to embrace spontaneity! Check the daily Cruise Planner or the Royal Caribbean app for all the scheduled activities – from dance classes and fitness sessions to culinary demonstrations and art auctions. There's always something happening that caters to every interest, and you'll find plenty of opportunities to mingle or simply enjoy your own company. Don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation; fellow cruisers are often friendly and open to meeting new people. A solo cruise on Ovation of the Seas to Alaska was one of my most rewarding travel experiences, filled with incredible activities and unforgettable moments.
