Are you broken?
Healthcare is broken. But you? You’re not broken — yet.
The tasks, the patients, the conditions, the deductibles and copays and the whole broken system… it’s a lot. So here’s my real question: how do you keep yourself from breaking?
Self-care, hobbies, lifting, sports, getting off social media, leaning on your people — what actually works for YOU?

Living and working within the healthcare system can feel overwhelming due to constant demands, complex patient needs, and frustrating administrative hurdles like deductibles and copays. I’ve personally experienced the stress this environment can cause, and I can say that consciously prioritizing my own mental and physical health is essential to preventing burnout. One of the most effective approaches I’ve found is customizing self-care routines that truly resonate with me rather than following generic advice. For example, engaging regularly in physical activities like weightlifting or sports not only strengthens my body but also offers a much-needed mental break from work pressures. This aligns with physical therapy principles that emphasize movement to facilitate healing and reduce stress. Additionally, disconnecting from social media at times helps me reclaim focus and improve my mood, as constant online engagement often adds to anxiety. Leaning on trusted friends and family creates invaluable emotional support, reminding me that I am not alone even when the system feels broken. Ultimately, the key is recognizing the signs of stress before they escalate and actively choosing coping mechanisms that work personally for you. Whether it’s occupational therapy techniques for managing daily tasks or speech-language pathology methods to improve communication, there are diverse resources available. Sharing what strategies help you maintain your whole self fosters a supportive community in which we can all learn from each other’s experiences.
