chasing vs seeking
In my experience practicing yoga and mindfulness, I’ve noticed how the mindset behind our movements can profoundly shape our overall well-being. When we approach yoga with a mentality of chasing—the relentless pursuit of the hardest poses or an idealized image—we often find ourselves caught in a cycle of frustration and exhaustion. This desperate chase can rob us of the joy and meaningful insights that yoga offers. Conversely, adopting a mindset of seeking transforms the practice into an exploration fueled by curiosity and self-compassion. Rather than rushing toward external milestones, seeking invites us to listen more deeply to our bodies and cultivate a better relationship with our inner selves. For example, when I shift from chasing the perfect pose to seeking a greater understanding of my limits and sensations, I notice increased calmness and presence on the mat. This approach not only applies to yoga but can also influence how we engage with life’s challenges. Moving away from a desperation-driven mindset to one of gentle inquiry reduces stress and opens doors for growth. The practice of seeking encourages patience, empathy toward ourselves, and acknowledgment that progress is not linear but full of learning experiences. Ultimately, it’s not about changing what you do on the yoga mat but how you do it. Embracing a practice centered on curiosity rather than desperation fosters a healthier and more fulfilling journey—physically, mentally, and emotionally.
