Specimen XXVII: The Cara Blanca Revenant
" Whisper of the Green Veins"
Deep within the cloud-veiled jungles of Costa Rica, there are nights when the trees breathe light. Locals tell of a pale monkey with eyes like twin suns, watching from the dripping vines. They say it was once a white-faced capuchin — curious, clever, too close to mankind. But the forest changed it. The rain soaked into its skin, the moss crept into its veins, and the jungle rewrote its flesh until it became something else — something neither beast nor spirit, but memory incarnate.
Now it moves through the mist in silence, its fur glowing with the heartbeat of chlorophyll and its grin stretching wider than language. It mimics the sounds of those who enter the rainforest — laughter, names, prayers — but none who have heard their own voice echo from above have ever been seen again. When the moon fades and the air hums green, even the toucans go silent. The jungle, for a moment, remembers it once belonged to the shadows.
