But then I saw that image with the river, and it was like a lightbulb went off: *why am I trying to go upstream when life is designed to flow forward?* Thinking about it, rivers don't just 'not go reverse' because they can't; it's fundamental to their nature. They adapt to obstacles, carving new paths, always seeking the lowest point to keep moving. They don't stop and lament a fallen tree or a rocky bank. They find a way around it, or over it, or through it. That's the energy I want to bring into my own life. For me, 'forgetting your past' isn't about erasing memories or denying experiences. It's about letting go of the emotional baggage that ties you to them. It’s accepting what happened, learning the lesson, and then consciously choosing to leave the heavy feelings behind. I found that journaling really helps with this – getting those thoughts out of my head and onto paper, then literally closing the book on them. It’s a powerful symbolic act. Then comes the 'focus on your future' part, which is just as crucial. It’s not about having every single step planned out, because let's be real, life throws curveballs. Instead, it’s about having a general direction, a vision for where you want to go. For me, that means setting small, achievable goals and celebrating every tiny victory. It builds momentum, just like how a tiny stream gathers strength to become a mighty river. I've started visualizing my ideal future for a few minutes each morning, and it honestly shifts my mindset for the whole day. And 'always be positive'? This one can be tough, especially when things feel overwhelming. But I've learned that positivity isn't about pretending everything is perfect. It's about choosing to see the good, even in difficult situations, and believing that things will get better. It’s an active choice. When I feel negativity creeping in, I try to interrupt the pattern – maybe by listening to an upbeat song, going for a quick walk, or calling a friend who always lifts my spirits. It's about actively cultivating that forward-flowing, optimistic mindset. So, if you're feeling stuck, or if you're someone who often finds themselves looking back with regret, remember the river.
