A Food Diary from Tokyo — Jul 2025 🍜🍣

Tokyo was truly a foodie’s dream.

From sushi and ramen to cute cafes and local favourites, every meal felt like a highlight. Honestly, it’s so hard to fit everything I ate into just 10 slides here.

I tried to capture a mix of classics and hidden gems - think melt-in-your-mouth grilled fishes, creamy bowl of curry udon, and the most intense and smooth matcha.

If you want to see the full version of my Tokyo food diary (because there was a LOT more), check out my TikTok / IG for the complete roundup 🤍

... Read moreDuring my Tokyo trip, I was amazed by the incredible variety of food experiences that catered to every craving. For tonkatsu lovers, I highly recommend trying a spot different from the usual Maisen. This place offered daily changing cuts like fatty, lean, and rich, each paired with a special salt that elevated the dish to another level. It truly gave me a new appreciation for this classic comfort food. Another memorable stop was Age.3 Ginza, where the sandwiches were surprisingly delightful, especially the perfectly fried creme brûlée which wasn't too sweet and just right in texture. It’s a quaint spot with a unique twist on familiar flavors. If you’re into hearty rice dishes, Katsudon-ya Zuicho serves an exquisite katsu don with flavorful fatty pork; adding an extra egg makes it feel like the ultimate comfort meal. The cozy vibe and manageable wait made this a great casual dining choice. For the seafood fanatics, Yakiuo Ishikawa in Roppongi Rinkarō was a standout. The freshness and grilling technique really brought out the umami in every bite—a meal that remains my top highlight. Shodai’s creamy curry udon, topped with potato foam, was a dream come true for me. Its rich and velvety soup combined with perfectly chewy udon noodles created comfort in a bowl. Although some locations require a wait, others are more accessible. Tea lovers should not miss The Matcha Tokyo or Cloud Club Matcha for their exceptionally smooth, rich, and creamy matcha drinks—far exceeding typical tourist spots. Lastly, Taiyaki Hiiragi with its generous, not-too-sweet red bean filling was a perfect sweet finish. Its traditional flavor combined with just the right sweetness made it a treat I returned to. Exploring these various spots and flavors made me appreciate Tokyo’s culinary diversity beyond just sushi and ramen. Each meal told a story, and I can’t wait to share more detailed experiences on my TikTok and Instagram. Whether you're a seasoned foodie or planning your first trip, adding these recommendations to your itinerary promises a delicious adventure.
