Tretinoin??

Let me start off by saying I work at a Dermatology Clinic, so I have the inside scoop😉

Tretinoin is one of the BEST topicals used for acne, fine lines, wrinkles etc. Yes it will help get rid of acne and acne scars, but it also helps reduce/prevent fine lines & wrinkles.

How it works:

Tretinoin is a strong retinoid that drys out the skin in order to allow a layer to shed then reveal new and smoother skin.

How to use it:

After cleansing and moisturizing your face, apply a pea sized amount to your entire face once nightly as tolerated. It is advised to start with a low percentage (as shown above) and if that is too much, you can always mix it with moisturizer to dilute it a tad.

Heads up:

It will 100% make your skin dry, but that’s what it’s supposed to do. Some people quit after a few days because they don’t like the peel but you have to stick with it. If you use it long term, you will see great results.

Hope this helps!🫶🏼

... Read moreHey skincare fam! Picking up where I left off with my Tretinoin insights from the derm clinic, I wanted to dive deeper into what you can truly expect when you start this incredible journey. You've heard about the magic, now let's talk about the reality and how to make it work for *you*. First, let's chat about those percentages. My image showed a 0.025% Tretinoin cream tube, which is absolutely the perfect starting point for most beginners. It's gentle enough to allow your skin to acclimatize with minimal irritation, yet still effective. You might wonder about 0.05% or even 0.1% Tretinoin cream. These higher strengths are usually reserved for those whose skin has fully adapted to the lower concentrations, or for specific, more stubborn concerns like severe photo-aging or very persistent acne. Never jump straight to a high percentage; your skin needs time to adjust, and a dermatologist will guide you on when (and if) to step up. Now, for the 'Tretinoin timeline' – this is where many people get discouraged and quit. The first few weeks can be tough, often called the 'purging phase.' You might experience increased breakouts as Tretinoin speeds up cell turnover, bringing underlying congestion to the surface. Don't panic! This is usually a sign it's working. Alongside this, expect dryness, redness, and peeling, just as I mentioned. To combat this, I swear by the 'sandwich method': cleanse, apply a layer of gentle moisturizer, then your pea-sized Tretinoin, and finish with another layer of moisturizer. This can significantly reduce irritation, especially when you're just starting out or if your skin feels extra sensitive. The key is consistency and patience. Typically, you'll start seeing noticeable improvements in skin texture and clarity around 6-12 weeks. For fine lines and wrinkles, it can take 3-6 months, and sometimes even up to a year, to see significant results. But trust me, the long-term benefits are worth it! My colleagues and I see amazing transformations daily. Beyond application, remember that Tretinoin makes your skin much more sensitive to the sun. Daily, broad-spectrum SPF 30 (or higher!) is non-negotiable, even on cloudy days. Also, simplify the rest of your routine. Avoid other strong actives like AHAs/BHAs, Vitamin C, or benzoyl peroxide on the same night you use Tretinoin, especially initially. Your skin needs a break to focus on healing and renewal. So, if you’re holding that Tretinoin cream tube, whether it’s 0.025% or you’re considering a higher strength, know that you're on the right path to clearer, smoother, and more youthful-looking skin. Just commit to the process, listen to your skin, and enjoy the journey! I hope these extra tips from my dermatology experience help you stick with it and achieve your best skin yet. #tretinoinjourney #skincaretips
