how we spent 6 days in puerto rico 🇵🇷

... Read moreI absolutely loved every moment of my Puerto Rico trip, but looking back, there's always more to explore! If you're planning your own adventure to this vibrant island, especially beyond the popular spots like Old San Juan, you absolutely have to consider a visit to Cabo Rojo. It’s a completely different vibe compared to the bustling capital and offers some of the most stunning natural beauty on the island. I've heard so many amazing things about Cabo Rojo, especially its charming downtown area. It’s located on the southwestern tip of Puerto Rico, making it a perfect addition if you’re looking to explore more of the west side, similar to how we visited Crash Boat Aguadilla. The downtown area itself, centered around Plaza Ramón Emeterio Betances, is known for its laid-back atmosphere, colorful Spanish colonial architecture, and a real sense of local life. Imagine strolling through quaint streets, popping into small shops, and maybe grabbing a refreshing drink or a local snack from a street vendor. It's truly a taste of authentic Puerto Rican culture. What makes Cabo Rojo even more appealing is its proximity to some of Puerto Rico's most iconic natural landmarks. Just a short drive from downtown, you'll find the Faro Los Morrillos Lighthouse, perched atop stunning limestone cliffs. The views from there are absolutely breathtaking, especially at sunset. And right below the lighthouse is Playuela Beach, often called 'Playa Sucia' by locals, which is a secluded crescent of white sand and turquoise waters – perfect for a relaxing afternoon away from the crowds. It’s quite different from the catamaran trip to Playa Icacos we enjoyed, offering a more rugged and untouched beauty. Another must-see near Cabo Rojo are the Salinas de Cabo Rojo, or the salt flats. These pink-hued ponds create an otherworldly landscape, and it’s a fascinating spot for birdwatching. Plus, there’s an interpretive center where you can learn about the history of salt harvesting in the area. It’s definitely a unique photo opportunity and a great way to experience a different aspect of the island's natural resources. For foodies, Cabo Rojo is also a fantastic destination, especially for fresh seafood. While we enjoyed amazing brunches at places like Bistro Cafe and a lovely birthday dinner, I've heard the seafood shacks and restaurants around Cabo Rojo offer some of the freshest catches, often prepared with traditional island flavors. Imagine enjoying some mofongo with freshly caught fish or succulent shrimp, perhaps with a view of the Caribbean Sea. It sounds like a perfect culinary experience to complement the vibrant street food we enjoyed at the Luquillo Kiosks. If I were to plan another 6-day trip to Puerto Rico, I would definitely dedicate at least a day or two to explore Cabo Rojo and its surroundings. It offers a wonderful contrast to the historic charm of Old San Juan and the lively beaches, bringing a more tranquil and naturally beautiful dimension to a Puerto Rican itinerary. It's a spot that truly lets you connect with the island's serene side and vibrant local community.

Easily my favorite waterfall so far, thos fall is about an hour drive from San Juan and well worth it. It's tucked away in the mountains of San Lorenzo but easily accessible. it is on private property, so there are ours when it's closed to the public. #sanlorenzopr #puertorico #puert
