Marathon Journey

It's been a journey to make it up to this day! Still in disbelief that I'll be running my first ever marathon this Sunday running around the entire city of Philly! From doing my first 5k in June of 2024 I had no idea that this would have such a lasting imprint on my life. Not only for my health but something just untouchable like anyone else experiencing running for the first time. Coming from being over 410 lbs to about 270 with running being a big factor just makes me teary thinking about it. Thinking I couldn't run the mile in high school, giving up easily to running without stopping. It's a big mental game that doesn't end after one season, or a certain period of time, it keeps going with benefits of my health, what I eat, when and how much sleep I get and all much more that impacts running. I know this is only the start but it's definitely been a journey that I couldn't have done without my family and friends and especially myself from getting to the start line of running a marathon. Cheers to whoever reads this fully and relates. From obese to running with purpose!

... Read moreRunning your first marathon is not only a physical milestone but also a profound mental and emotional achievement. Starting from over 410 lbs and working down to 270 lbs with running as a key factor is a testament to determination and consistency. Many people struggle initially with motivation or the mental barriers to becoming a runner, especially when they recall never being able to run a mile in school or giving up quickly. But this story highlights how running can reshape more than just your body; it improves your mindset, habits, and daily routines like diet and sleep. Running a marathon around a city like Philadelphia offers not just personal achievement but a deep connection to the community and environment. Marathon training demands careful pacing, endurance building, and mental preparation. Support from family and friends, as mentioned, plays a vital role in sustaining motivation through the months of training. Every runner’s journey is unique, and this experience reminds us all that it’s not about speed or perfect form, but persistence and self-belief. For anyone thinking about starting to run, especially if struggling with weight or self-confidence, this journey underscores that progress happens step-by-step. From 5Ks to long runs, and eventually to marathons, the key is to listen to your body, balance your lifestyle, and stay committed. Running influences health profoundly—not only cardiovascular fitness but also mental clarity, stress relief, and better sleep quality. While training is tough, the rewards are far-reaching and life-changing. Finally, sharing your journey authentically, with its ups and downs, can inspire and motivate countless others. The hashtags #marathon, #runtok, #journey, and #emotional reflect the diverse experiences and community support that come with this transformative path. Cheers to all who dare to start and finish their running journeys with purpose and heart!

2 tips for marathon training
*Build Endurance Gradually: Increase your long runs by no more than 10% each week to avoid injury and ensure steady progress. *Prioritize Recovery: Take rest days and get enough sleep to allow your body to repair and adapt. Don’t underestimate the power of rest in preventing burnout and injury.
