Just crossed the start line in time for @New York Road Runners NYC Marathon 12 Miler Training series this morning!
It was definitely more of a run/walking interval today with light cramp and hamstring tightness but got through it.
NYC is right around the corner and these long runs are so important for me before race day!
Thank you to @SaltStick for saving me with your new electrolytes gummies for this long run 🏃♂️

Training for a marathon like the NYC Marathon requires a well-thought-out plan that balances endurance, recovery, and nutrition. From my own experience preparing for long-distance races, incorporating run/walk intervals can be a game-changer, especially when you start feeling muscle tightness or cramps. This approach not only helps prevent injury but also teaches your body to cope with fatigue in manageable segments. Managing muscle tightness, particularly in the hamstrings, is critical during these longer training runs. I found that regular stretching before and after sessions, combined with foam rolling, improves recovery and reduces the risk of chronic tightness. Listening to your body's signals during training prevents worsening cramps and allows you to adapt your pace accordingly. Nutrition is another pillar that supports marathon training. Electrolyte balance plays a huge role in maintaining performance, especially on longer runs when you sweat more and lose salts. I recently tried electrolyte gummies, which were easy to consume and helped replenish vital minerals like sodium and potassium. This small addition to my regimen made a noticeable difference in my endurance and post-run recovery. For those gearing up for race day, these long runs are invaluable. They not only boost your physical preparedness but also build mental stamina — helping you get comfortable with the race pace and fueling strategies. Remember, every runner has unique needs, so experimenting with your training intensity, nutrition, and hydration during these preparatory runs is essential to find what works best for you. Finally, joining a training series or community like the New York Road Runners can provide motivation, guidance, and camaraderie. Sharing experiences and tips with fellow runners helps keep the momentum going and makes the journey more enjoyable. Good luck to all runners preparing for the NYC Marathon this season!
