Elephants have enormous brains with a staggering number of neurons, enabling them to remember faces, mourn loved ones, and recognize themselves in mirrors. This combination of memory and emotional intelligence reveals a rich inner life. African grey parrots challenge assumptions about bird cognition with their ability to grasp abstract concepts like zero and perform tasks on par with five-year-old humans. Their use of words in context is particularly intriguing from a linguistic perspective. These insights highlight not only the complexity of animal minds but also the importance of protecting and understanding these species better.
