Global Debt Set to Surpass $100 Trillion by 2024
Global public debt is projected to exceed $100 trillion by the end of 2024, reaching about 93% of the global GDP.
This steep rise is primarily due to increasing fiscal deficits, especially in the U.S. and China, where economic growth has slowed while spending needs remain high.
The IMF warns that should these trends continue, debt could hit 100% of GDP by 2030, creating challenges for both advanced and emerging economies
Political resistance to tax hikes and essential spending requirements make reversing this trend difficult.
