Getting ready for our baby pt.1 🥰

Oh my goodness, getting ready for our little one has been such a whirlwind of emotions! From excitement to a sprinkle of 'oh my gosh, are we ready for this?!', it's truly an incredible journey. I wanted to share a little bit about what we've been up to to prepare for baby's arrival, especially since it feels like there's a never-ending checklist! First up, the nursery! This has been one of my favorite projects. We started by picking out the crib – safety is paramount, of course! Then moved on to practical things like a changing table (or a changing pad on a dresser, which is what we opted for to save space) and plenty of storage for all those tiny clothes and diapers. Don't forget a comfy glider or rocking chair for those late-night feedings and snuggles. It's not just about aesthetics; it's about creating a functional, peaceful space for both of you. Next, the baby essentials shopping list. This can feel overwhelming, but breaking it down helps. We've been stocking up on diapers (various sizes, because you never know how fast they'll grow!), wipes, and baby-friendly laundry detergent. For clothes, I've heard mixed reviews, but having a good stash of newborn and 0-3 month onesies, sleep sacks, and swaddles seems essential. Think about feeding – whether you're breastfeeding or bottle-feeding, having the right supplies on hand (pump, bottles, sterilizer) makes a huge difference. And don't forget bath time essentials like a baby tub, gentle soap, and soft towels. Beyond the baby's room, we've also been making some home upgrades to ensure everything is safe and sound. Think childproofing – outlet covers, securing furniture, and making sure cleaning supplies are out of reach. We also made sure to stock our pantry with easy-to-grab snacks and meals for those first few weeks when cooking might not be a priority. It's amazing how many little things you start to notice when you're looking at your home through a parent's eyes! One thing that’s been on my mind is packing the hospital bag. I've been making a list for myself, my partner, and the baby. For me, comfortable clothes, toiletries, snacks, and a long phone charger are at the top. For baby, a going-home outfit, a warm blanket, and maybe a few extra diapers. My partner also packed essentials for himself – it's a team effort, after all! Finally, the mental and emotional preparation. This part often gets overlooked amidst all the physical nesting. My partner and I have been having lots of conversations about our expectations, fears, and how we plan to support each other. It's okay to feel a mix of emotions – joy, anxiety, excitement, even a little bit of sadness for your pre-baby life. Connecting with other parents and reading up on newborn care has been incredibly helpful in easing some of my worries. This journey is just beginning, and I'm so excited to share more of our experiences as we get closer to meeting our little one!
