Systems That Help Me Stay Organized Long-Term

✨Everything in my apartment has a place, which makes putting things away effortless. I love using drawer dividers from The Container Store because I like the sizes and all the different options they have. I use them to categorize things, so everything has a home and easy to find.

✨My one-in, one-out rule I’ve been using for years and it’s a total game-changer. If I buy something new and I don’t have a hanger for it, something else has to go. The best part about this system, is that I’m already going through things on a regular basis, so I never have to do a massive-clean out.

✨I always keep a donation bag in my closet. It ties directly to my one-in, one-out rule. If something new comes in, something else has to go. This has also forced me to be very mindful of the pieces of clothing I’m purchasing. As soon as the bag is full, it goes straight into my car and off to the donation center. This keeps everything moving and prevents random piles of clothes sitting around my apartment.

✨I no longer spend my days off doing laundry-it was so exhausting and honestly, I don’t have time for that. Now, as soon as there’s a load ready, I start the washing machine. I can walk away, leave the house, or just continue doing what I need to do. This is another system I put in place years ago and it had made my life so much easier. I used to get so overwhelmed knowing I would have to spend an entire day off doing laundry instead of living.

... Read moreMaintaining a clutter-free and organized living space can significantly improve your daily life, reducing stress and saving you time. One reliable method is to ensure that everything in your home has a designated place, making tidying effortless and finding items quick and easy. For instance, drawer dividers are a fantastic tool for categorizing belongings; they keep small items neatly separated and prevent drawers from becoming chaotic. Adopting the "one-in, one-out rule" is another effective strategy that helps prevent accumulation. This simple habit entails removing an old item whenever you bring a new one into your apartment. It encourages mindful purchasing and prevents clutter from piling up. Accompanying this rule with a permanent donation bag placed in your closet further streamlines the process. As soon as the bag fills, it’s time to take it to a donation center, avoiding the buildup of unused items. Laundry routines can also affect your organization and stress levels. Instead of dedicating entire days to washing, starting loads as soon as they’re ready allows for a more balanced schedule, freeing your downtime for other activities. This method reduces overwhelm and keeps your laundry under control consistently. To enhance these systems, consider scheduling regular weekly or biweekly tidying sessions to maintain organization. Incorporating smart storage solutions, like labeled bins or clear containers, can also help you locate items quickly and keep surfaces clutter-free. Ultimately, these practical, easy-to-implement systems—drawer dividers, one-in one-out rule, donation bags, and efficient laundry habits—work together to create a calm and orderly environment that supports intentional living and long-term organization.
