Shark week!!

Shark Week 2025 is scheduled from Sunday, July 20 to Saturday, July 26, airing each night from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET/PT on the Discovery Channel. For streaming convenience, it is also available on Max and Discovery+. This annual event celebrates the incredible diversity and fascinating biology of sharks, captivating audiences worldwide. Among the featured shark species are some of the ocean's most impressive creatures, such as the whale shark, the largest known shark reaching up to 46 feet in length, and the basking shark at 33 feet. The great white shark, known for its power and iconic status, measures around 23 feet. Other notable sharks include the megamouth shark (15 feet), nurse shark (13 feet), mako shark (8 feet), blacktip reef shark (6.5 feet), bonnethead shark (3.4 feet), and the tiny dwarflantern shark at just 6 inches. Shark Week also highlights extinct shark species that once roamed the oceans. The Megalodon (Otodus megalodon), a prehistoric giant, dwarfed many modern sharks. Other extinct sharks include the Cretoxyrhina mantelli (Ginsu shark), Cladoselache, Stethacanthus, Edestus, Hybodus, Orthacanthus, Ptychodus, Xenacanthus, and Scapanorhynchus. These ancient species reveal the evolutionary history of sharks and their adaptation over millions of years. This celebration not only entertains but educates viewers on the vital ecological roles sharks play and the need for their conservation.
