I did not want my son to help me make these cookies. It was late. I was exhausted but it had to be done. He really wanted to help. I could have told him no and he would have understood but I didn’t. I let him help and I’m so glad I did!

He was so happy and he talked my ear off. He shared memories of times we made things in the kitchen together before and made me laugh. Did he slow me down? Yes. Did we make a bigger mess than necessary. Absolutely. But he continues to bring this night up. You can hear in his laughter how much fun he was having. 🥰

I may have been exhausted, not feeling my best, going through the motions but he brought me in the present moment. He made this way more enjoyable.

Someday, he might have kids of his own and he’ll include them in things he’s doing because his mama always did. And if/when he does… I hope he tells them me about me. ♥️

... Read moreInvolving children in kitchen activities like baking cookies can be a truly rewarding experience, even when it feels inconvenient or tiring. Kids not only learn practical skills but also gain confidence, creativity, and a sense of accomplishment. Although messes, slowdowns, and distractions are natural parts of cooking with young helpers, these moments often turn into cherished memories that last a lifetime. Allowing kids to participate helps develop their fine motor skills and introduces basic concepts such as measuring, mixing, and following instructions. More importantly, it fosters meaningful communication and bonding time between parents and children. As the story beautifully illustrates, even when a parent is exhausted, the joy and enthusiasm a child brings can brighten the experience and bring them into the present moment. Family traditions often begin in the kitchen, and including kids creates opportunities to pass on values and memories. The kitchen becomes a place of laughter, storytelling, and connection. This nurturing environment encourages kids to replicate these experiences in their future families, ensuring that the love and lessons continue through generations. Furthermore, involving children in cooking can promote healthier eating habits, increased willingness to try new foods, and an appreciation for homemade meals. Rather than focusing on a perfectly clean kitchen, the priority shifts to quality time and shared experiences. In summary, while baking cookies with kids might mean more mess and a slower process, the emotional benefits far outweigh these challenges. As this story shows, the kindness of letting a child help fosters joy, creates joyful memories, strengthens relationships, and builds a foundation for future family traditions.

I DID IT, Y’ALL!! 🚙✨ My old car was giving me way too many maintenance problems, and honestly, it just wasn’t big enough for everything I needed—especially with my huge dog riding around with me! So I made the move and got my 2025 Hyundai Palisade XRT, and I couldn’t be more proud of myself! 🙌🏽
