Apple Cream Cheese Danish

There’s something calming about turning simple ingredients into something warm, delicious, and made with love. Tonight’s project was these homemade Apple Cream Cheese Danishes, and they did not disappoint!

Ingredients

Apple Filling

* 2 Granny Smith apples, diced

* 2 tbsp brown sugar

* 1 tbsp white sugar

* 1 tsp cinnamon

Cream Cheese Filling

* 8 oz cream cheese, softened

* 1/4 cup sugar

* 1 tsp vanilla extract

Danish

* Pastry dough

* Cream cheese icing for drizzle

Instructions

1. Dice Granny Smith apples into small cubes.

2. Add apples, brown sugar, white sugar, and cinnamon to a pan.

3. Cook for about 10 minutes until softened and syrupy.

4. Remove from heat and allow the apple mixture to cool completely.

5. Mix cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until smooth.

6. Shape pastry dough and add a layer of cream cheese filling.

7. Top with the cooled apple mixture.

8. Bake at 400°F until golden brown.

9. Allow to cool slightly and drizzle with cream cheese icing.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 40 minutes

My Tips

* Let the apple filling cool completely before adding it to the cream cheese mixture to keep everything from becoming runny.

* Granny Smith apples give the perfect balance of tartness and sweetness.

* Don’t skip the icing—it ties all the flavors together beautifully.

Taste Test

These danishes were creamy, buttery, and packed with warm cinnamon apple flavor. I loved how the tart Granny Smith apples balanced the sweetness of the cream cheese icing. They weren’t overly sweet, which is exactly how I like them. Next time, I might add a pinch of nutmeg for even more cozy flavor.

Made with love, made from scratch. ❤️

... Read moreBaking Apple Cream Cheese Danishes from scratch is such a rewarding experience, especially when you use fresh ingredients like Granny Smith apples, which add just the right tartness to balance the creamy sweetness. One thing I've learned through my own baking experiments is that the temperature of your ingredients plays a big role. Cooling the apple filling completely before adding it to the cream cheese layer is crucial to prevent the pastry from becoming soggy or runny. I usually like to prepare the apple filling a day ahead; slow cooking the diced apples with brown sugar, white sugar, and cinnamon gives them a lovely syrupy texture and rich flavor that intensifies overnight. When it comes to the cream cheese filling, making sure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature helps achieve a flawlessly smooth texture when mixed with sugar and vanilla. Another tip is choosing the right pastry dough. Puff pastry works exceptionally well here because it creates those flaky, buttery layers that contrast beautifully with the soft fillings. After assembling, baking at 400°F until golden brown ensures that the crust crisps up nicely while the fillings warm through. Drizzling the baked danishes with cream cheese icing just before serving adds a touch of sweetness that ties all the flavors together and enhances the visual appeal with an inviting glaze. If you want to add a twist, sprinkle a pinch of nutmeg into the apple mixture as suggested. It adds a subtle warmth that complements the cinnamon perfectly. These danishes are also fantastic as a brunch treat or a cozy dessert. My family loves them with a cup of hot coffee or tea in the morning. Overall, homemade Apple Cream Cheese Danishes are not only delicious but also provide a soothing baking therapy experience—transforming simple ingredients into something special made with love.
