Daily Devotional: Zeal with Knowledge
Zeal feels right. It burns in your chest, pushes you to act, and makes you want to do something for God. It’s passion, urgency, fire.
But Scripture gives a sobering truth: zeal alone is not enough.
In Romans 10:2, Paul speaks of people who were deeply passionate about God, but they were misguided. Their passion wasn’t rooted in truth, and because of that, it led them away from righteousness instead of toward it.
That means it’s possible to:
- Be sincere… and still be wrong.
- Be passionate… and still be misled.
- Be active… and still not aligned with God’s will.
That’s a humbling realization.
God never asks you to turn down your zeal; He asks you to anchor it in truth.
When zeal runs ahead of knowledge:
- We may speak before we understand.
- We may correct others harshly instead of lovingly.
- We may elevate feelings over Scripture.
- We may act impulsively rather than wisely.
This is why Scripture also says:
"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." - 2 Timithy 2:15
Zeal moves you.
Knowledge guides you.
Without guidance, movement can lead anywhere.

Ask yourself honestly today:
"Am I rushing ahead of what I truly understand?"
"Do I study before I speak?"
"Am I teachable, or just driven?"
God isn’t looking for perfection, but He does desire growth in truth.
Zeal makes you move.
Knowledge makes sure you're moving in the right direction.
"And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment," - Philippians 1:9
