Like many of you, I've always struggled with coming up with a really solid Christmas list – both for myself and for my family. It feels like every year someone asks, "What do you want for Christmas?" and my mind just goes blank! This year, I'm trying a new approach, inspired by some amazing printable wish list templates I've discovered, and I wanted to share some of the things we're adding to ours.
For us adults, moving past the usual generic gift suggestions can be tough. Those 'Adult Christmas Wish List' templates really opened my eyes to new categories! Beyond just a big 'something I want,' I'm now thinking about 'something I need.' This could be anything from a specific kitchen gadget that makes life easier, new bath products I've been eyeing, or even a cozy throw blanket to replace a worn-out one. Think practical but still a treat! I've also found it super helpful to list 'to read/wear' items. For 'to read,' I'm adding specific authors or book series I've been meaning to dive into. For 'to wear,' I'm thinking about that stylish scarf I saw, a pair of comfy pajamas, or even just a restock of my favorite socks. Don't forget to include specific sizes and colors in the 'details and notes' section – it makes it so much easier for gift-givers!
I'm also leaning into the 'preferences' and 'favorite things' sections from the templates. Instead of just saying "I like coffee," I'm getting specific: a gift card to my favorite local coffee shop, a unique blend of beans, or even a specific travel mug. For bath products, I'll mention a particular scent or brand I adore. And if you're doing a Secret Santa, those 'Secret Santa Survey' templates are gold! They allow you to list your favorite drink, candy, or even stores, plus crucial 'specifics' like 'don't need' items or any allergies to avoid. This keeps the gift thoughtful and avoids any awkward returns.
Now, for the kids, the 'My Christmas Wish List' templates are fantastic for guiding their thoughts beyond just the latest toy craze. Of course, there will always be 'wants' like games or action figures. But we're also encouraging them to think about 'needs' – maybe new sneakers for school or a warmer winter coat. The 'wear' category is perfect for character-themed pajamas or a cool t-shirt they've been begging for. And for 'read,' we're looking at new books from their favorite series or even a fun magazine subscription. I particularly love the 'to do' section, where they can suggest family activities like a trip to the local zoo, a movie night with popcorn, or a craft kit we can work on together. It helps us find gifts that create memories, not just clutter.
My biggest tip is to keep a running list throughout the year. When you see something you like, or hear a family member mention something, jot it down. By the time Christmas rolls around, you'll have a comprehensive and thoughtful wish list ready to go, making the holiday season truly stress-free for everyone involved!
thank you i love this! i always just say i don’t want anything because i feel bad for asking for stuff but i LOVE practical gifts like gas cards and stuff like that :)
As a naturally picky person I really love this! I feel like a lot of people don’t put a lot of thought into their gifts so it’s hit or miss, and I love when I can get someone something they’ll actually appreciate and enjoy! I don’t know why I never thought of this
