Reyes shines as PE intern at Yuying Sec Sch

During his internship at Yuying Secondary School, Reyes faced initial challenges common to many first-time educators, such as feeling awkward and nervous in front of the class. However, his background as a dedicated marathon runner equipped him with perseverance and grit, which he transferred to his teaching role. The supportive environment, including guidance from his supervisor and mentors, played a crucial role in helping him improve critical skills such as voice projection, class management, and body positioning to engage students effectively. One key insight Reyes gained was understanding that students learn at different paces. To address this, he practiced demonstrating physical exercises multiple times to ensure every student could fully grasp the lesson objectives and success criteria. This personalized approach not only enhanced students' learning but also helped build stronger relationships, creating a more positive and engaging classroom atmosphere. Additionally, Reyes’ involvement in coaching co-curricular activities like the Boys' Brigade Amazing Race, which spans over 20 kilometers, allowed him to apply his sport science knowledge practically and foster teamwork and resilience among students. These hands-on experiences deepened his passion for teaching and affirmed his desire to pursue a career as an inspiring physical education teacher. From my own experience working with interns and junior educators, these formative challenges and mentorship moments are vital. They help transform initial hesitation into confident and engaging teaching. Reyes’ journey reflects how embracing challenges and continuous learning can lead to personal growth and meaningful impact in education, especially in sport and exercise science contexts.
