NEW MILESTONE: JOBLESS FOR 8 MONTHS 🙏🙏

i can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. the countless of ghostings, and not a lot of rejection notices really does a number on you.

i just wanted to switch industries, is it so hard to try a new industry without any experience?

i get it, everyone these days, if they see a gap, they want you to do something productive, they want you to know what you’re doing, but why is it so hard for us to just admit that it’s just hard to find a job now?

why must we always upskill ourselves? why must we always prove ourselves? yeah okay, i get it, but let’s just pretend the answer doesn’t exist.

even when i started applying for “simple”, “not a lot of brain power”, “mundane” work like an admin job, nobody wants me! isn’t that simply fascinating? i guess i was presumptuous in asking for a higher average pay suitable for admin, is that why i can’t get any job?

i get it everything’s according to MOM’s guidelines, oh 7 days AL, you have the ultimate SG basic package, but realistically or would you call it ideally, the bare minimum should be 10. yes call me entitled or selfish, but to me, if i’m asking for a significantly lower pay, can’t the bare minimum be 10 days?

why? is it because i’m not an executive? a senior? a director? a founder? that’s why low paying employees don’t deserve more off days? because they use more brain power, have more things to manage?

just because the labor is elsewhere other than our brain, does that mean we’re a lesser being than upper management? i get it, all sorts of reasons, yeah they’re handling so much more responsibilities, they don’t really rest on their off days either, can you, a mere worker handle it? okay i get it! and so what? we are part of the operations yknow? without us, they can’t run anything.

yet, reality still stands before us. well, gotta suck it up i guess. the search continues.

im tired of feeling like nothing. i feel like an ant every time i go into an interview. with every ghost, the blow to my self-esteem increases.

i’m dressed like a proper office worker, but i’m heading home by 3pm. my back slouches, curling more and more, trying to make myself smaller, embarrassed by my plight.

and when i travel from the west to the east for an interview just to hear, “we’ll let you know if you’re shortlisted within 2 weeks, and if you are, there will be a second interview, back here in the east.”

i honestly broke down.

for such a low pay, i have to go through 2 rounds of interview? in the east? again? with no guarantee that i can make it past the second stage? how much more do i have to take? how much longer must i endure?

the endless and mindless applying of jobs is slowly eating away my will to live.

and then when i actually have the job, can i stay? as a self labelled ‘serial job hopper’, i’m dying of worry. can the people around me be kinder? can i treat myself kinder? can i stop being afraid? the list never ends.

also just recently, i had a conversation with my partner.

“do you think we can get married in 2030?”

“that depends on you.”

“what if i can’t stay or find a job?”

“then you know it’ll eventually build resentment between us because of money issues right?”

“yeah… and you probably don’t want to be with me anymore right? you’ve waited too long.”

“i love you a lot, but this is a real problem, and love doesn’t solve money problems.”

ah… how i hate not being a normal office lady. even if we were to break up in our 30s, only my value will decrease with age. what a cruel fate.

just how much longer must i marinate in self-doubt and uncertainty?

... Read moreHaving been unemployed for such a long stretch, I’ve realized that it’s not just about sending resumes or going for interviews—it’s about managing the mental and emotional toll it takes on us every single day. Many people don’t talk about how joblessness can affect your confidence and self-worth. It’s exhausting to dress up, travel for interviews, and then hear nothing back, or to face multiple interview rounds for low-paying jobs. The repetitive cycle of hope followed by rejection leaves you questioning your value and ability. What also makes this journey harder is the pressure to constantly upskill or prove yourself worthy. Switching industries without experience sometimes feels impossible because employers expect you to already know everything. But isn’t allowing someone a chance to learn on the job part of hiring? On a more personal note, joblessness brings strain to relationships. The worry about financial stability and future plans, like marriage, can create tensions that go beyond just money. It’s a reminder that unemployment affects not just the individual but their loved ones too. If you’re going through something similar, know that these feelings are valid. The road to employment might be long and challenging, but it’s important to be kind to yourself, seek support from friends or communities who understand, and keep believing in your worth beyond job titles or paychecks. Lastly, remember that your struggle doesn’t define you. Every day spent looking for work is a testament to your resilience. Let’s keep sharing these stories so no one feels alone in this difficult journey.

don’t take all the blame for not being able to find a job!! the job market is bad now (I know we hear this reason every once in awhile, but it’s true, and this time it’s probably worse than ever because of AI displacing a lot of workers) so try not to be too hurt by the rejections and be a little more kind to yourself! your dedication after so many months shows how much fire there is in you! don’t give up! all the best 💗

🇸🇬40+ is Not the End, It's a New Beginning
Once people hit 40+, whenever they mention changing jobs or resigning, someone will immediately say: “It’s really hard to find work at this age.” “Companies won’t hire employees that old.” “Even if you do find something, your salary will definitely be cut in half.” Hearing this repeatedly, yo

my story of losing my job
I lost my job last year. It was part devastating, part scary. It made me realise just how vulnerable we are as employees. No one is truly safe from losing their job. I was that employee who always raised my hand and said: “I’m done with my work, is there anything I can help with?” On top of my
