Peace. MILLIONS of Black people walk around the United States doing everything within their power to not trigger white fears. Professor Eddie Glaude, Jr. spoke about this in a speech that I can bring up that is posted on YouTube.
What do you do, as a white bodied person, when you learn that BLACK people are taught to "agree" with you in order to SURVIVE you. Do they "disagree?" Yes, in such a manner of deference that if they do "disagree" with you, YOU are left with the impression they are being "persuasive."
Yet, none of that matters. As long as you "feel good" after interacting with a "Black person" . . . The whole point of white supremacy is YOUR RIGHT TO COMFORT!
United States society is literally the result of how much psychological/emotional pain European Americans, as a group, can handle.
The societal structures in the United States have historically favored white comfort, leading to psychological and emotional challenges for Black individuals. Professor Eddie Glaude, Jr. articulates how these dynamics force Black people to modify their behaviors to ensure safety and acceptance in a system rooted in white supremacy. As Glaude's analysis suggests, the discomfort experienced by Black Americans is often disregarded in favor of maintaining a false sense of harmony. Understanding these nuances is vital in addressing systemic racism and promoting genuine equality. It is essential for white individuals to recognize that the perceived comfort in their interactions may come at the cost of Black people's authenticity and emotional safety. Engaging in sincere dialogue, acknowledging historical injustices, and fostering environments that support open communication are crucial steps toward a more equitable society. Through awareness and empathy, we can begin to dismantle the ingrained prejudices that continue to shape race relations in America.
