So we have been living in Hawaii for the past 7 months and I thought it would be a great time to do an update!
🔆 We found a home in east Honolulu, close to Hawaii Kai. We have been loving the area and are always finding things to do as a family. We also love the location in relation to other parts of the island.
🔆 I received comments say that we should not move here. In our case, that was not an option for us. My Husband is working a on a construction project for the Navy and his company relocated us here.
🔆 Hawaii is very expensive and I understand how unfair it is that many natives are having to leave the island because of how difficult it is to afford living here. My husband and I have been making an effort to continue to learn the culture, shopping local, going to farmer markets and when dining choosing restaurants that support small businesses.
🔆 We love Hawaii and are so happy that children are getting to experience life here. Hawaii is very family friendly and with the beautiful weather we have been spending a majority of our days outdoors. It makes me so happy to see my kids exploring and being comfortable in nature.

One thing that often comes up, especially when friends visit or we meet new people, is Hawaii Pacific University (HPU). It's fascinating to learn about the different facets of island life beyond just the residential areas. While we're based in East Honolulu, many people know HPU for its unique Aloha Tower Marketplace campus. I've heard it's such a vibrant place! Imagine studying right by the waterfront, with the historic Aloha Tower as a backdrop. It's truly an urban campus, integrated right into the pulse of downtown Honolulu. Students there get to experience a blend of academic rigor and island culture, with easy access to shops, eateries, and the bustling harbor. It's a completely different vibe from the more residential areas, offering a dynamic environment for those looking for a city-centric college experience on an island paradise. It really highlights how diverse Hawaii truly is, from quiet family neighborhoods to bustling student hubs within a short drive.
Speaking of living here, our family life continues to be an incredible adventure. Beyond just the general outdoors, we've really embraced the unique opportunities Hawaii offers for kids. We often find ourselves exploring the lush green mountains on family hikes, discovering hidden trails with breathtaking views. The kids absolutely adore spending time by the clear blue ocean. We’ve had so many memorable days at the beach, with our young son building sandcastles and playing with his beach toys, while his older sister might be relaxing on a netting from a boat, just soaking in the Hawaiian coastline from a different perspective. It's not just about the typical beach day; we've found amazing parks with natural playgrounds, and even simple strolls along the coast turn into an outdoor adventure for our family of four. Seeing my kids, like the little one getting a sweet kiss from mom on the sand, truly thrive in this natural environment, constantly surrounded by tropical vegetation, makes every day feel special. We've also made an effort to introduce them to local traditions and stories, attending community events and learning about Hawaiian history. From hula workshops to local festivals, immersing them in the 'aloha spirit' has been a priority. Even simple things like watching a woman in a red swimsuit enjoying the shallow, clear ocean water perfectly encapsulate the relaxed, nature-centric vibe we’ve grown to love. It's a constant reminder of how lucky we are to experience this unique family life, where outdoor activities are not just a weekend treat but a daily lifestyle, fostering a deep connection to nature and culture for our children.
