I saved my company $20k, here’s how:

Whenever I get a quote from any freelancer we need to hire I have a 3 quote rule. You can steal this!

Quotes vary SO much from person to person and it doesn’t mean they are trying to scam you, they just value themselves diffeeewntlg for the same job.

For a photographer for an event I got quotes between $1k, $500 and $250. I ended up getting a photographer for $250 for one hour and made sure he had a clear shot list so I could maximize his hour.

What are your tips for getting the best price with a freelancer?

... Read moreHiring freelancers can be a tricky task, especially when prices vary widely for similar services. A proven approach is to follow a "3 quote rule," where you request quotes from three different freelancers to get a sense of the market rate and service quality. This prevents overpaying and ensures you select the best value option. For example, when looking for a photographer for an event, prices can range significantly, from $1,000 to as low as $250 for an hour. Rather than choosing the most expensive or the cheapest outright, it’s essential to consider the scope of work and how to maximize the freelancer's time. Creating a detailed shot list and clear instructions allows you to get the most out of a shorter booking, making a lower quote more viable without compromising on results. Additionally, understanding that discrepancies in quotes don’t necessarily mean freelancers are dishonest is key; they often value their time and skills differently. Open communication about expectations helps bridge this gap. Another tip is to check freelancer reviews and portfolios to ensure quality aligns with price. Negotiating small adjustments or bundling tasks can also improve pricing. Overall, this approach not only saves money but improves hiring efficiency, making it a valuable practice for small business owners and entrepreneurs looking to optimize expenses while maintaining quality work.
