Learning how to self love after a breakup is hard 🥲

Lately the people around me told me that I need to love myself more.

I thought I did by doing skin care, doing my studies, doing what I like (eg vlogging).. But I also realised that I get exhausted emotionally easily, I get distracted easily and it’s difficult for me to churn out words from my brain to my mouth at work.. I would cry for no reasons at night and I’d question myself for not being able to control the tears.

My boss came to talk to me as a friend, and shared her wisdom with me that made my cry. She said “Adulting life is hard, and you have to praise yourself for being able to survive on your own for so long! You either have to live with your trauma and be comfortable with it, or try to get over it. Anyone with flaws is good because you will develop empathy. You shouldn’t determine who you are by how others see you/ react to you, but be able to accept yourself and love yourself to be able to ignore how others perceive about you.”

And so, I am starting on my journey to heal, learn to self love, improve myself and be happy with my growth to be a better person 💪🏻

From personal experience, the emotional exhaustion and distractions you face are entirely normal responses to healing from deep emotional wounds. I found that acknowledging my feelings, including unexpected tears, was an important step rather than trying to suppress them. One impactful insight I gained is the importance of praising myself for my resilience. Like many people, I spent a long time just surviving, which eventually led to disconnecting from who I truly am. It was only when I paused and acknowledged my achievements—however small—that I began reclaiming my self-worth and identity. A powerful piece of wisdom to keep in mind is that your flaws and vulnerabilities are strengths in disguise. They help you build empathy for yourself and others, fostering deeper connections and self-acceptance. Rather than being defined by how others perceive or react to you, focus on loving and accepting yourself authentically. To rekindle self-love, try practical habits such as journaling your emotions, creating small daily rituals like skincare or meditation, and engaging in activities that bring genuine joy, such as vlogging or creative hobbies. These actions cultivate self-care and help you find your center again. Remember, healing is not about becoming someone new but rediscovering and loving the person you’ve always been. It’s a gradual process that involves patience, kindness, and celebrating progress, no matter how incremental. Embrace your journey toward self-love with courage—you are worth every step of the way.

The hardest work was learning to love myself
Two years ago, I closed the chapter on almost a decade of a toxic, abusive relationship. Walking away was the bravest thing I did, but it was also the start of my darkest storm. I was broken, lost, and surrounded by people who didn’t really care. Looking back, I can admit I wasn’t proud of who I wa
