Setting boundaries👑

When it comes to setting and enforcing boundaries, I am in full recovery from being a “people pleaser”- I like to call it “People Please Disease” for fun. I’ve always been surrounded by “habitual line-steppers!” It took for me to go to therapy to realize I had to do something different for my peace of mind.

Here are some tips for setting boundaries that have worked well for me:

✨Learn to recognize people who have abusive tendencies & patterns. If you don’t have a game plan, you will find yourself in a world of hurt. Then in true people-pleaser fashion, you will stay around & suffer silently. Going to therapy really helps with this. Domestic violence therapy changed my life.

✨Communicate your preferences. You have to teach people how to treat you. What’s acceptable with someone else may not be okay for you. Once you’ve stated your boundaries, it’s up to you to enforce them.

✨Say “no” to things that no longer serve you. Your needs matter.

✨Make people respect your time.

✨Return to heated conversations at a later time instead of staying engaged. Sometimes a cool down is necessary to collect your thoughts and communicate effectively.

✨Put your mental health first. Give to others from your overflow, not an empty cup.

✨Give people time to change, but if the change doesn’t happen or doesn’t suit your needs, walk away.
