How I use My Journal Week-to-Week!

I’m finally settled in for the semester so after a brief hiatus I’m back! 🫶🏼😌 I love my journals and I love giving them life and making them mine with doodles and pages taped or glued in because it shows it’s been loved! At the start of each week, this is how I setup the first three spreads (6 pages) so I can refer to them throughout the week!

First: the schedule!

my class schedule changes week to week and I hate having to pull it up constantly when I can’t remember so I can look at it, plus this way I can add in the extra things we have going on that aren’t automatically built in like volunteering or club events or extra meetings! I know we have calendar apps and other organizational tools, but I use my iPad enough for school, so this is one way I try to take a step away from tech and give my eyes a small break! Anddddddd I love using my pens and highlighters so this is just an extra excuse to! I also don’t have a fancy hourly planner anymore so this is a fun way to still do it on my own terms

Next: what I call the “master list”

I can be forgetful without things written down, and I do love a good list, so I try to do this to help me structure the week and make lists for each class of what I want to get done! It’s not steadfast and there’s nothing wrong if I don’t do every single thing, but at least that way I have options and can pick things off the list that I want to accomplish each day as far as class material! Anything that isn’t done just gets transitioned to the next weeks spread and becomes slightly higher priority!

Last: the miscellaneous everything

More lists like extra school things that don’t necessarily fall under a course, groceries I need to buy at some point during the week, and life things that need to get done! Big or small, I’ll happily write it down so I (1) don’t forget and (2) can still cross things off my list even if they aren’t “major” because it shows I’m doing things to serve myself!

I’ll journal in the following pages and doodle and do whatever, but this is how I split the weeks up and it helps add a timeline to my journals so I can see how my headspace evolves with each week and really feel like I’m putting so much use and love in my journals!

What do you think? What would you add or change?

... Read moreJournaling has become an essential practice for many, especially for students juggling multiple responsibilities. A structured approach not only helps in organizing tasks but also enhances creativity. To craft an effective weekly journal setup, begin with creating a clear schedule that lists all classes, meetings, and personal commitments. Utilizing colorful pens and highlighters can make the process enjoyable while visually appealing. Next, establish what is known as a 'master list,' which allows you to sort tasks by priority without overwhelming yourself. Instead of feeling rigidly bound to complete everything at once, this list offers flexibility, letting you pick tasks based on daily motivation and availability. If something isn’t completed, seamlessly transition it to the following week’s spread to keep it on your radar. Moreover, consider a miscellaneous section to jot down additional to-dos like grocery shopping or personal projects. This not only aids in ensuring that lesser significant tasks are remembered but also provides satisfaction as you cross them off your list, contributing to a sense of achievement. As you journal through the pages, take time to doodle, reflect on the past week, and express any emotions or ideas that arise. This creative expression can serve as a therapeutic outlet, helping to clear your mind and enhance your focus for the week ahead. Consistently revisiting your journal allows for tracking personal growth and changing mindsets. In essence, your weekly journal becomes not just an organizational tool, but a canvas of your journey and experiences.
