A small ceremony full of meaning and heart power.
The offering of rice and clean water is considered to be the worship of Phra Rat with pure, clean and necessary for living.
It conveys the four factors of abundance and well-being that the householder intends to bow down with respect.
According to ancient beliefs,
🌾 Rice Offering → Supplementing Life to Eat, Use, No shortage
💧 Offer Clean Water → Reinforce the Mind Calm, Refreshing, Problems Unravel, Good Power Circulates into Life and Homes

1 small container of rice or a clean cup
1 glass of clean water or 1 small bowl
3 incense
2 candles (representing the light of wisdom)
🙏🏻 The process of offering on the monk's shelf (according to Thai custom)
1) Clean before offering
Wipe the monk's shelf or the squad table, change the old water for auspiciousness.
2) Set your mind calm
Take 3 deep breaths. Intend the offering with respect and faith.
3) Light incense and candles
3 incense blossoms → instead of Buddha, Buddha, Buddha, Buddha, Buddha
2 candles → representing the light of consciousness and wisdom
4) Say the offering
(The name of the offerer can be adjusted)
"Namo Tassa, Bhagavato, Arto, Samma, Buddha" (3 ends)
"I bow down to this rice and clean water.
To the Buddha, the Buddha, the Buddha, the Buddha.
As a sacrifice.
May abundance, happiness and shade.
It flows to my home and my family. "
5) Place the offering on the monk's shelf.
Place it neatly in front and no higher than the Buddha.
6) Set up a prayer
Pray for desires such as work, money, health, or family peace.

หลายคนอยาก “ถวายข้าวสารบนหิ้งพระ” แต่ไม่แน่ใจว่าต้องทำยังไงถึงจะถูกธรรมเนียมและดูเรียบร้อย เวลาเราจัดบนหิ้งพระที่บ้าน เราจะยึดหลักง่าย ๆ คือ “สะอาด เรียบง่าย เคารพ” แค่นี้ก็อุ่นใจแล้วค่ะ 1) ควรถวายเวลาไหนดี? โดยส่วนตัวเรามักทำช่วงเช้า หลังอาบน้ำหรือทำธุระส่วนตัวเสร็จ เพราะบ้านยังเงียบ ใจสงบดี แต่จริง ๆ ทำเวลาไหนก็ได้ ขอให้เราไม่รีบ และตั้งใจถวาย บางบ้านทำก่อนออกไปทำงานเพื่อความเป็นสิริมงคลก็ได้เหมือนกัน 2) ภาชนะควรใช้แบบไหน? ข้าวสาร: ใช้ถ้วยเล็กที่สะอาด แห้ง ไม่มีคราบมัน (ถ้าเป็นถ้วยสีขาวหรือถ้วยที่ใช้เฉพาะบนหิ้งพระจะดูสบายตา) น้ำ: ใช้แก้วใสหรือขันเล็ก เลือกแบบที่ล้างง่ายและไม่มีกลิ่นค้าง น้ำควรเป็นน้ำสะอาดใหม่ทุกครั้ง จากภาพที่หลายบ้านนิยมทำ จะวาง “ถ้วยข้าวสารกับแก้วน้ำ” ไว้ด้านหน้าพระพุทธรูป และอาจมีดอกบัว/ดอกไม้สีอ่อนขนาบข้างให้ดูสงบเรียบร้อย 3) วางตรงไหนถึงจะเหมาะ? หลักที่เรายึดคือ อย่าให้ของถวายสูงกว่าพระพุทธรูป และไม่วางบังองค์พระ จัดให้อยู่ด้านหน้าแบบสมดุล ซ้าย-ขวาเท่ากันได้ยิ่งดี ถ้าหิ้งแคบมาก ให้เน้นวางเท่าที่พอดี ไม่ต้องแน่นจนดูรก 4) ต้องจุดธูปเทียนทุกครั้งไหม? ถ้าสะดวก จุดธูป 3 ดอก เทียน 2 เล่มก็ทำให้พิธีครบตามแบบไทย แต่ถ้าอยู่คอนโด/หอพัก หรือที่บ้านไม่สะดวกเรื่องควัน เราเคยใช้ “ตั้งจิต กล่าวนะโม และคำถวาย” โดยไม่จุดธูปเทียน ก็ยังรู้สึกดีและสบายใจเหมือนกัน (ทำเท่าที่เหมาะกับสถานที่และความปลอดภัย) 5) ถวายแล้วข้าวสารกับน้ำทำอย่างไรต่อ? น้ำ: แนะนำเปลี่ยนทุกวันจริง ๆ ค่ะ เพราะดูสะอาดและทำให้หิ้งพระสดชื่นตลอด เรามักนำน้ำเก่าไปรดต้นไม้/เทลงดินแบบสุภาพ ไม่เทแบบหงุดหงิดหรือรีบ ๆ ข้าวสาร: ถ้วยเล็ก ๆ เปลี่ยนสัปดาห์ละครั้งกำลังดี ถ้าข้าวเริ่มชื้น มีกลิ่น หรือมีมด ให้เปลี่ยนทันที ข้าวสารที่เปลี่ยนออก เรามักนำไปหุงกินเอง (ถ้ายังใหม่สะอาด) หรือผสมกับข้าวถุงอื่น ไม่ทิ้งให้เสียของ 6) ข้อควรเลี่ยงเล็ก ๆ หลีกเลี่ยงการใช้ภาชนะที่แตก/บิ่น วางของคาวหรือของที่มีกลิ่นแรงบนหิ้งพระ และอย่าปล่อยให้น้ำขุ่นหรือมีฝุ่นจับ เพราะทำให้ภาพรวมดูไม่เรียบร้อย สุดท้ายแล้ว การถวายข้าวสารบนหิ้งพระไม่ใช่เรื่องความหรูหราเลยค่ะ แต่เป็นการฝึกความสม่ำเสมอ ความสะอาด และความตั้งใจ พอทำเป็นกิจวัตรเล็ก ๆ ในบ้าน บรรยากาศก็ดูสงบขึ้นจริง ๆ
