Healthy desire for love vs desperation

Ladies… let’s be real for a second.

Being “desperate for love” is a real thing… but it’s not just about wanting love. We ALL want love.

It’s how you move because of it.

There’s a difference between:

“I want love” and

“I’ll take anything that feels like love.”

Wanting your soulmate? That’s not desperation. That’s standards.

But it becomes desperation when:

you start ignoring red flags,

you get attached too fast,

or you’re holding onto someone who’s not showing up for you… just because you don’t want to feel alone.

You can have a high sex drive, want connection, want affection—and STILL not be desperate.

Desperation is when you abandon yourself to have somebody.

So ask yourself:

Am I waiting… or am I settling?

Because those are two VERY different things.

It helped me to regularly ask myself: "Am I genuinely attracted to this person, or am I just scared of loneliness?" This simple question made me pause and evaluate if I was settling or waiting for the right partner. Waiting requires patience and self-respect, while settling can lead to heartbreak and low self-esteem. High desire for connection and affection is natural and healthy. Wanting intimacy does not mean being desperate; desperation only arises when we compromise our boundaries, ignore red flags, or cling to someone who doesn’t reciprocate our efforts. I found journaling my feelings and talking with trusted friends invaluable for maintaining perspective. Another important aspect is understanding your self-worth. When you honor your standards, you attract healthier relationships and cultivate self-love. Desperation often stems from a fear of being alone, but embracing solitude can be empowering and a path to growth. Ultimately, distinguishing between waiting and settling transforms how we approach love. It fosters healthier relationships built on mutual respect and genuine affection rather than neediness or fear. If you recognize feelings of desperation, take time for self-reflection and reinforce your boundaries. True love will never ask you to abandon yourself.
