Retirement is a Scam
The traditional retirement strategies that were taught are a scam
Okay, let's be real for a moment. Have you ever sat down and truly thought about the traditional 'save for retirement' advice we've been given? Because lately, I've been feeling like it's less of a solid plan and more... well, a bit of a scam. It's not about being negative, but about questioning the status quo and securing our own futures. We're told to put our hard-earned cash now into things like 401ks, right? But then you look closer at the fine print. You can't even touch your 401k until you're basically 60, and if you try to access your own money before that, they slap you with huge fines. It feels like our money is locked away, and not always working for us. And what about when it's supposed to grow over time? My biggest concern is inflation is eating it alive. It feels like you're running on a treadmill just to stay in the same place, or even falling behind. Plus, let's not forget how Wall Street skims the fees. It’s mind-boggling to think about tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars potentially gone before you even see it. Then there's Social Security. We're told it's supposed to have our back, a safety net for our golden years. But honestly, I worry it'll be pennies by the time we're older, or even worse, it might not even be there at all given how it's drying up right now. It makes you wonder: why are we putting all our faith into systems that feel so fragile and out of our control? It’s unnerving to think of our future relying on something so uncertain. The idea that we're saving all this cash now for future me to maybe use while current me's broke now really hits home for me. What if the market happens to crash when you turn 65, just as you're ready to retire? That's a terrifying thought, knowing it's all gone or significantly reduced just when you need it most. This isn't just about financial planning; it's about life planning and feeling truly secure. This whole situation has pushed me to rethink. Instead of blindly following the old rules, maybe it's time to explore other ways to build wealth and secure our future. What if we focused more on creating multiple income streams, investing in assets we control, or even starting a side hustle, rather than just relying on systems that feel inherently rigged? It's a big conversation, but one I think we all need to have. Don't just save blindly; understand where your money is going and what it's really doing for you – and perhaps, more importantly, what it's not doing.
