What to do in Portland, Maine for less than $5! 🌊🦞

Portland has so much to explore! If you’re looking for something different and unique, checkout the secret mini print vending machine located inside of Soliel!

This mini print vending machine costs $1.00 per print, and it’s random! You never know which print you’ll get but in my opinion that’s the best part! The prints also rotate, so if you visit during different times of the year, you can get new prints!

I got the Negroni print, tomato print, and pickles print! My favorite is the pickles print! 🥒

Comment and let me know what prints you’ve gotten! ⬇️

... Read morePortland, Maine, truly is a treasure trove of experiences, especially if you're looking for cheap things to do in Portland, Maine without compromising on fun. Beyond the amazing mini print vending machine I discovered at Soliel – which is still at the top of my list for a unique, under-$5 find – this charming city offers so many other ways to enjoy a weekend trip near me on a budget, even providing plenty of indoor fun for adults. First off, don't miss out on simply exploring the city's vibrant street scene. A walk through the historic Old Port district is completely free and endlessly entertaining. I love soaking in the atmosphere, admiring the beautiful brick architecture, and window shopping at the unique boutiques. It’s a fantastic way to spend a summer afternoon, just enjoying the fresh sea air and the bustling energy of the city. You can stumble upon so many little nooks and crannies that make Portland so special. For some outdoor beauty that costs nothing, I highly recommend a visit to the Eastern Promenade. The views of Casco Bay are absolutely breathtaking, and it's perfect for a leisurely stroll or a scenic picnic. It’s one of my favorite spots for a peaceful escape. And speaking of coastal beauty, while some of the famous lighthouses might have small parking fees, you can often admire the iconic Portland Head Light from Fort Williams Park without spending a dime on entry if you're just passing through. Or, a personal favorite of mine for a quicker, equally charming lighthouse view is Bug Light Park in South Portland – it’s adorable and offers a lovely short walk by the water. Now, back to indoor fun for adults! If the weather isn't cooperating or you just want to cozy up, Portland has fantastic options. After grabbing a unique art print from that cool vending machine at Soliel, I love browsing the independent bookstores – you can spend hours getting lost in shelves without spending a cent. Many art galleries also have free admission, especially during events like the First Friday Art Walk (check local listings!). It's a wonderful way to connect with the local arts scene and discover new favorites. I also enjoy just finding a quaint coffee shop, grabbing a delicious but affordable pastry, and people-watching – it's a simple pleasure that makes any weekend trip feel more authentic. Even when it comes to food, you can find cheap things to do in Portland, Maine. While the city is famous for its lobster, you can still savor local flavors on a budget. Farmers markets are brilliant for picking up fresh, local produce and tasty snacks for just a few dollars, and they offer a lively community atmosphere. Grabbing a slice of pizza or a delicious bagel from a local shop can also be a super satisfying and economical meal. Portland is truly a city where you can create unforgettable memories and have an amazing time without having to spend a fortune, making it ideal for things to do in Portland, Maine in the summer or any time of year!
