The perfect winter day in Kennebunkport, Maine
Kennebunkport is the perfect place to spend a cozy winters day! Enjoy the afternoon walking around downtown and exploring the many local shops. You can miss the giant Xmas tree on display in the town center! While you’re shopping around be sure to stop and grab a snack and warm drink to sip on! My favorite local coffee shop Dock Square Coffee House for a coffee, hot coco or tea! You can sit inside and enjoy your warm beverage, or take it to go!
Maine is known for their seafood, specifically the famous lobster! Be sure to grab lunch or dinner at one of the many great restaurants in Kennebunkport. My favorite restaurant to visit in December is Batson River Brewing & Distilling - Kennebunk because they always go all-out for the holiday season!

You know, there's something truly magical about Kennebunkport in the winter that you just don't get during the bustling summer months. It transforms into this serene, festive wonderland, perfect for a peaceful getaway. When I planned my last trip, I was really looking for some cozy outdoor activities and ways to soak in the charm without the crowds, and Kennebunkport delivered beyond my expectations! One of my absolute favorite things to do was take a crisp walk along Gooch's Beach or Colony Beach. The ocean air is so invigorating, and seeing the waves crash against the frosty shore is breathtaking. It's truly a different experience from summer – quiet, reflective, and absolutely stunning for photography. You might even spot some hardy locals strolling or collecting shells. Just bundle up, because that Maine coastal breeze can be quite chilly! And speaking of stunning, the downtown area truly becomes a 'Christmas town' as the image text mentioned. Beyond the giant Xmas tree, every shop window is decorated beautifully. It’s not just shopping; it's an experience admiring the holiday decorations. I loved just meandering, hot cocoa in hand from Dock Square Coffee House, taking in all the festive lights. It feels like stepping into a holiday movie set, especially as dusk settles. Don't forget to walk down towards the harbor. The boats might be covered, but the views of the water and the historic buildings are still incredibly picturesque. It's a great spot for some quiet contemplation and fresh air, away from any potential downtown bustle. A huge tip for anyone visiting Kennebunkport in the winter: layers are your best friend! Think warm waterproof boots, a cozy hat, gloves, and a good scarf. You’ll be much happier exploring if you're prepared for the crisp Maine air, especially if you plan on spending time outdoors walking through the charming streets and along the coast. After all that outdoor fun, finding a warm spot is essential. While Dock Square Coffee House is a must-visit for a hot beverage, I also discovered a few other hidden gems. Many of the local inns and B&Bs have inviting common rooms with fireplaces, and some even open their cafes to the public. It's worth looking up if you need a little extra warmth and a change of scenery. And remember, places like Batson River Brewing & Distilling are perfect not just for their delicious food but also for their festive, warm atmosphere during the holidays. Keep an eye out for any local winter events! Sometimes there are small holiday markets, craft fairs, or even caroling events that pop up, adding another layer of charm to your visit. A quick search before your trip can reveal some delightful surprises. And yes, even in winter, Maine's amazing seafood is a non-negotiable! There's nothing quite like a steaming bowl of clam chowder or fresh lobster roll enjoyed in a cozy restaurant after a day of exploring. It's the perfect way to refuel and experience a true taste of Maine.
