Unemployed Day In the Life

I have been unemployed since June 🥲 I got laid off from my corporate job. The job search has been ROUGH to say the least. I apply to nearly 30+ jobs every day. Rarely hear back. The ones I have heard back from are more like pyramid schemes. And I turned 26 this month so I NEED full time with health insurance…

do you know of any companies hiring in NYC area??

Thank you!

Xx

... Read moreLife after getting laid off can feel like a whirlwind of emotions, and believe me, I'm right there with you. When I first lost my corporate job back in June, I thought, 'Okay, I'll bounce back quickly.' But the reality of the job hunt, especially trying to land something full-time with health benefits in NYC, has been incredibly challenging. It's not just about sending out resumes; it's about navigating a whole new rhythm. One of the biggest things that's helped me cope and stay somewhat sane is establishing a routine, even when every day feels different. My mornings often start with a familiar pattern: 'UNEMPLOYED STEP 1: WALK BABY' – getting out for some fresh air with my little one, Riley, helps clear my head. Then it's back to 'Feed baby HIS NAME IS RILEY' and 'Feed myself' before I can even think about coffee. That 'CAFFEINATE' moment is truly essential to kickstart my day, especially when I know I have a packed schedule ahead. Then the job hunt truly begins. It's easy to get lost in endless applications, and I've been there, sending out 30+ almost daily. But I've learned it's also crucial to diversify. Beyond just applying, I try to dedicate time to networking, updating my LinkedIn profile (which I noticed on my screen as 'Linkedin.com/teed Q Search Linkedin News'), and even doing informational interviews. When I see 'I have two interviews today' on my schedule, it's a mix of excitement and nerves. I spend time researching the company, practicing answers, and even taking a moment to 'Wash makeup brushes' to feel a bit more put-together and confident. Dealing with rejections and those frustrating 'pyramid scheme' opportunities can be incredibly draining. It's a constant battle to maintain a positive mindset. That's why I try to build in little breaks, like 'Eat some lunch' away from my screen, or an 'Afternoon pick me up' – whether it's a short walk or just stepping away for a few minutes. It's about acknowledging that this phase is tough and being kind to myself through it. For anyone else going through this, especially if you're also in the NYC area and looking for work, don't hesitate to reach out to your network. Share your story, ask for advice, and be open to unexpected opportunities. Finding support, whether it's online or through local groups, can make a huge difference. We're all in this together, trying to navigate the 'unemployed life' and find our next big opportunity.

Majority of the jobs online are “ghost jobs”. I started hearing about this on social media platforms like TikTok and even YouTube videos. The job market right now for millennials and Gen Z has been EXTREMELY ROUGH!!! The difficulty with getting jobs now days is very true and sad to say. Majority of the jobs listed online are not even real and are not meant to actually hire people looking. The best thing to do is apply to the actual website, go in person (mandatory if possible), speak with close friends or family that are in a job so they can help you get hired where they work, and call HR to get in contact directly with the people who hire. I hope this was informative and helpful everyone. Wish you all the best🥹🫶🏽 and don’t give up❤️
