This winter has been so LONG & we are still getting snow on the east coast. It’s been hard to keep my toddler entertained indoor when all he wants to do is go out to the park but here we are, finding one activity at a time to keep him going. Wintertime can be really challenging when it comes to keeping toddlers entertained indoors, especially on the East Coast where snow days stack up. Over time, I've found it’s all about rotation and variety to keep my toddler engaged without feeling cooped up. One indoor activity that’s been a hit is creating a mini indoor “arcade” space, inspired by simple games using household items. For example, setting up soft ball toss games or even simple ring toss with plastic rings adds playful competition and keeps little hands moving. Additionally, involving toddlers in sensory play like homemade playdough or water bead bins can stimulate creativity and fine motor skills. I also mix in crafting sessions—cutting, coloring, and assembling crafts themed around winter help my child express creativity and stay focused. When the energy levels are really high, indoor obstacle courses using pillows, tunnels, and soft blocks help burn off energy safely. A little music and movement session with dancing or follow-the-leader games also help lift moods during those gray winter days. Remember, it’s perfectly normal for toddlers to be restless during long indoor periods, so planning several different activities throughout the day helps keep things fresh and exciting. Keeping close attention to what your child enjoys most and adapting activities to suit their mood can make indoor days memorable and fun despite the winter blues.
