how many skincaresteps is too many?

How many skincare steps is taking it too far? Do we really need all these serums and toners? Personally, my skin doesn’t mind having a longer skincare routine 2-3 times a week, which is how often I do this routine. Other than that, I keep it pretty simple, during the day especially.

So should I even be using all these?

... Read moreFrom my personal experience, finding the right number of skincare steps really depends on your skin type, goals, and lifestyle. For example, I tend to keep my daily routine minimal—usually just cleansing, moisturizing, and sunscreen—but a couple of times a week, I enjoy a more elaborate regimen with exfoliation and serums. One thing I realized is that using too many products every day can sometimes overwhelm your skin and even cause irritation, especially if they contain active ingredients like AHA, peptides, or collagen boosters. The OCR content mentioned products like NAD+ PDRN, peptides, and exfoliants in a 10-step routine, which sounds impressive, but I wouldn't recommend doing that daily. Instead, I find it beneficial to spread those steps out on specific days. Exfoliation, for instance, is key but should be done cautiously—about 1-2 times a week depending on your skin’s sensitivity—to avoid stripping your skin barrier. Ingredients like glycolic acid (AHA) are great for resurfacing and brightness but can be harsh if overused. Under-eye patches and collagen-boosting treatments are fantastic for targeted care, but they don’t need daily application either. I’ve noticed my skin appreciates these treatments more when given a break in between sessions. Ultimately, simplicity during the day—focusing on hydration and protection—is often the best approach, while evenings or certain days can be reserved for more extensive routines incorporating multiple steps and products. Always listen to your skin’s signals to avoid overuse and maintain a healthy, glowing complexion.

Great question! There’s no magic number: it’s really about whether each product has a purpose. If you’re layering 10 steps daily and your skin is irritated or congested, that’s a sign to simplify. For most people, a solid 3–5 step routine covers all the bases. Reserve the longer routines for a few nights a week, exactly like you’re doing! Always consult a dermatologist for personalized guidance.
