If you like Indiana Jones, you will like this book.
I can appreciate the author wanting to write a book to include the cultural/heritage/customs of the ancient Mexican people.
I really enjoyed the beginning and the middle of this book. I liked the banter back and forth between Corrie and Ford. There was also a sexual tension between them for a while and then finally, things got a little spicy-ish, until people came looking for them! They almost got fired from the dig for their sneaky behavior.
Things got interesting when Ford found out that someone was trying to steal something from the dig, but he never told Corrie about it, until it was practically too late!
I wasn't a big fan of the ending because Ford finally came clean after he was stabbed, and he confessed his love for Corrie and told her the truth about why he was doing the dig in the first place! Overall, I thought it was a good book. It needed a little more more of a "wow" factor to me. It is missing something but I can't figure out what it is. I'm really disappointed with the ending though because I really thought Ford was going to turn out to be a decent guy, but he really turned out to be a selfish jerk.

Read moreHaving recently finished reading Raiders of the Lost Heart, I found the blend of adventure and romance truly engaging, especially as someone who enjoys stories inspired by Indiana Jones vibes. The author’s effort to authentically integrate cultural heritage and customs of ancient Mexican civilizations adds a refreshing layer of depth that sets this book apart from typical adventure romances.
One aspect that stood out to me was the character interaction between Corrie and Ford. Their witty banter and underlying sexual tension made their forced proximity scenario feel natural and compelling. The "cinnamon roll" and "badass Latina Indiana Jones archeologist" dynamics contributed to a lively and entertaining narrative, reminiscent of classic enemies-to-lovers tropes but with a unique cultural twist.
I also appreciated the tension revolving around the archaeological dig, with secrets and betrayals that kept me hooked. Though I shared some disappointment with the ending, particularly Ford's character development which took an unexpected selfish turn, the overall journey was satisfying. It reminded me how adventure stories often explore complicated human emotions and flawed heroes, making the romance more realistic.
For readers curious about audiobooks, Raiders of the Lost Heart offers an immersive experience with great pacing and vivid descriptions. The mix of adventure, fiction, and romantic tension makes it a solid pick for fans looking for something beyond typical romance novels.
In all, if you're searching for a story that combines treasure-hunting excitement, cultural richness, and an intriguing romance, this book delivers. It may lack a certain "wow factor" for some, but its charm lies in the authentic emotional connections and adventurous spirit that drive the story forward.
