Your hair is NOT Dishwater

Like most of us, I grew up in the era where more blonde = More pretty. For those of us who had light blonde hair throughout childhood, we associate many positive things with our blonde-ness. When we are little, we feel special and cute (regardless of hair color) but when our hair gets darker, it’s a sign of growing up.

So after I turned 15, my hair got darker. I bleached it from that point onward until about 30. It got so much darker than I realized! It’s ok… I like it, and it matches my eyebrows :)

If you can relate to this journey, I want you to understand that I'm not discouraging anyone from bleaching their hair. However, I urge you to consider a few things. Could bleaching be causing more harm than good? Sometimes, it can detract from your natural beauty. For instance, your skin tone might require a warmer hue, but bleached hair tends to have cooler tones by default. Additionally, if the blonde is too light, it might create an unflattering contrast with your facial complexion, possibly giving an orange-ish appearance. (This advice is primarily for individuals with white skin tones, but regardless of your complexion, understanding your undertones is crucial.)

If you love your bleach blonde hair, that’s what you gotta do!

Lastly, let's ditch the negative stereotypes associated with dark blonde hair. How about terms like taupe, mushroom, ash, beige, honey, light brown, or dark blonde instead of labeling it as dishwater or dirty? That’s just some propaganda to make us hate the way we look. 😂

It's time to embrace the beauty of all hair colors without falling into outdated beauty standards. Please share any thoughts or feelings about this in the comments, I’d love to read it! #coloredhairtips #blondetips #blondetobrunette #blondehairtips #bleachedhaircare

... Read moreYou know, for so long, the term 'dishwater blonde' felt like a subtle insult. It implied something dull, undefined, and less desirable than those bright, sun-kissed, or salon-perfect blonde hues. But after years of battling my natural color with bleach, I’ve come to realize that this so-called 'dishwater' isn't just a shade; it's a spectrum of truly beautiful, nuanced tones that deserve to be celebrated. What exactly is 'dishwater blonde' when we strip away the negativity? For me, it's that gorgeous, earthy blend of light brown and dark blonde that often appears in natural sunlight. It's not quite brunette, not quite golden blonde, but something uniquely in-between. Think of it as a chameleon shade – sometimes it leans more cool and muted, like a beautiful 'taupe blonde hair color' or even a 'taupe brown hair color cool tone.' Other times, it has subtle warmth, a hint of 'beige honey hair color' that catches the light just right. It’s the natural shade many of us had as kids before it deepened, and it’s truly coming back into its own. When I started embracing my natural shade, I paid more attention to its underlying tones. Is your 'natural dishwater blonde' more ash, beige, or honey? Understanding this helps you enhance it. For example, my hair has a beautiful 'ashy blonde' quality, which I now adore. To bring out those cool undertones, I've found that using purple or blue toning shampoos occasionally helps prevent any unwanted brassiness, keeping it looking fresh and vibrant. If your shade leans more towards a 'beige taupe hair color,' you might find that clear gloss treatments really boost its natural shine without altering the color. For those with 'dark blonde hair natural sunlight' reveals so many hidden dimensions. It's often multi-tonal, unlike a flat, artificially colored blonde. This depth and variation are what make these natural shades so captivating. One tip I've learned is to use products that enhance shine and definition, like a lightweight leave-in conditioner or a shine spray. It makes all the difference in highlighting those natural highs and lows. If you're transitioning from bleached hair back to your 'natural dishwater blonde' or 'dishwater brown,' patience is key. It's a journey! I found that getting regular trims to remove damaged ends and using deep conditioning treatments weekly really helped my hair regain its health. And honestly, finding a stylist who understood my goal of moving away from strong bleach towards embracing my natural tones was crucial. They helped me blend the grow-out line with subtle lowlights, making the process much smoother. Let’s replace 'dishwater' with terms that truly reflect the beauty: 'taupe,' 'mushroom,' 'beige,' 'honey,' 'ashy blonde,' or 'light brown.' These aren't just words; they're celebrations of a sophisticated, natural palette that is anything but dull. Your natural hair color is designed to perfectly complement your skin tone and features, and there's immense beauty in letting it shine. So, next time you look in the mirror, remember: your hair is unique, complex, and absolutely gorgeous, not 'dirty blonde hair natural sunlight' can bring out its true glow!

My hair was always described as “dishwater blonde” or “dirty blonde” growing up. So thank you for this 😭♥️🙏🏻
