Social media has become an integral part of daily life, especially for content creators who rely on likes and comments to gauge their impact. However, it's important to recognize that the number of likes or double taps we get does not equate to real love or authentic connection. Many individuals unknowingly tie their self-esteem to social media validation, which can undermine genuine confidence. Numerous studies and experts suggest that constantly seeking approval online can create a false sense of self-worth. This often leads to anxiety, stress, and even depression when expectations of virtual approval are not met. Building real confidence requires focusing on meaningful interactions rather than metrics like likes or followers. Engaging with communities authentically, sharing honest stories, and fostering offline relationships can help strengthen self-esteem. Moreover, creating boundaries with social media use can prevent the negative effects of validation-seeking behaviors. Practicing self-compassion and reminding oneself that online approval is just one aspect of life is essential for mental well-being. In essence, likes aren’t love. While social media offers opportunities for connection, it should not be the sole measure of our worth. I think it does because I realized whenever I was younger many people would delete posts. I didn’t get enough likes and I always wondered why. Then I caught myself doing the same thing. Oh, on a good day I can’t get 100+ likes but this one’s getting only 40… maybe it’s not good enough and then I would delete it

I think it can. Relying on likes or comments for confidence makes it fragile…I feel like real confidence comes from knowing your worth offline.
